The Steady Parade Of Suspensions Continues.

Recommended Posts

I see a point coming very soon where it's one strike and perma-ban.

I guess the other threads about people getting busted isn't enough of a deterrant. So...

I'm thinking a 30 day suspension or just a perma ban and getting it over with. I'm open to reasonable and constructive input.

IDK seems like its always the new guys.. Maybe you need a HUGE flashing POp up when they sign up that syas "NO DRUG REFFERENCES ON THIS SITE" nad make them click OK..

Or have a probation period where post for the first 30days must be approved by a mod, obviously no chat privledges until you have completed the 30 days..I know this would be a ton of work for the mods, but i dont have a better Idea

Nope. not going to hold people's hands. If you arent going to play by our rules, you can simply go play someplace else.

Posting here is a privilage, not a right. smile.gif

And I'm going to have to add the exploding smiley to the forum's list, hope you dont mind. biggrin.gif

Maybe do 15 days > 30 days > Perma

15 days, I think, would allow the offender to realize he has done something wrong. This also allows for adequate time to look over the rules and see what he shouldn't do in the future.

30 days for the moron if he does it again. Maybe he's thick headed and just doesn't understand. Or maybe he thought the first one was a joke. At this point a PM could be sent stating that the next offense will result in a permanent ban from the forum. Maybe this will encourage him to memorize the rules.

Perma for the idiot that just doesn't get it and never will. These people don't need to be part of the forum.

I mean I have seen some honest mistakes from some people. I have also heard that many here have been on several "vacations" but now seem to be some of the top contributors. This way it gives people a chance. But do what you want. I get really tired of some of the vacation worthy posts as well.

if you decide to do 1 warning then perma ban then when they are banned for that 2 weeks the only thing they should be able to view is this while they are banned http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?act=boardrules then they will have 2 weeks to learn and love it if they truly value this hobby and want to come back and learn

Ya, its that extra work for the mods and me i worry about. A vacation doesnt mean people cant read the forum mind you, only that they can't post. So even with a 30 day they arent cut off completely. And lets face it, it does say in the sign up in clear english to read the rules. I'm leaning towards 30 then perma myself.

There is some confusion in the rules, or maybe it's just me. It was clear on my first reading not to discuss NHT stuff, but you are going to catch a lot of new people talking about John's coals not thinking that they are talking about NHT, because in their minds they are not, they are just talking about coals. There seems to be a hidden list of no-no words that I am still not totally clear on because I do not have much knowledge on NHT stuff, so I guess I'm at risk to be perma banned at some point. Even a 30 day ban I would probably lose interest and go somewhere else. Not sure what the right answer is to this problem.

I know it says read the rules when you sign up, but i would bet about 90% of people dont read the rules when they sign up. I know i never did until i saw the first posting that someone was banned or on suspension. Its just one of those things that people never do when they should. Maybe when you sign up it should say right there, no drug references on this site. You are catering to a huge number of people that know nothing about hookah besides that you smoke out of it. They have no idea the culture or the history behind it. This is a forum for hookah enthusiasts who know a lot more than the average joe about a hookah, but when people first sign up all they think is "hey sweet a bunch of people who smoke!" so maybe it would be ok to just make it a little more bold that there are no drug references allowed on here, and if they have the terrible need to be talking about drugs over the internet then there are tons of other forums out there that allow it.

Just my 2 cents.

I think the bans should go like this, 7 days in case they are new and didnt read the rules yet. That gives them 7 days to read the rules. Then 30 days, for it to REALLY set in that they messed up, then a perma ban. Mush, is there a way that maybe a ban can be more than losing your posting privileges? Maybe have it be that the only thread you can access is the rules thread. I doubt that would work because all you would have to do is not sign in and read post as a guest.

I agree we need to change the punishment system around...we had a bunch of repeat offenders in the past and this could avoid that problem as well as give the new people who dont read the rules, a punch in the face with an ultimatum(which I like)

but one thing I strongly feel that we need is:
Somehow whenever a new account is created, we need some sort of pop-up for the rules...maybe kind of like how when you go to do something online you have to check a box that you have read the terms and conditions...ya, that just might do it...in the sign-up page we could insert a scroll with the rules(maybe a revised version like Delsol_si made) and then a check box that you agree to abide by the rules.
That would definitely be ammo for perma-bans.

Haha. scratch_one-s_head.gif

Most suspension threads I have seen have been new people. They mention a NHT word, get banned, then talk back when they get posting freedom again. Only so often do I see them come back and start posting and become an active member. Most people that come on this site are probably under 16 and into alternate smoking anyway. I would give permabans for mentions of NHT, because it's in the rules before you even enter the forum. For everything else I would give 15-30 days (not NHT related).

I agree with this.

To perma ban someone after just 1 warning is very harsh. This gives them 2 warnings, with more time off for them to realize what they did and not do it again. Even after a total of 45 days off the msg board, and they still break the rules, then it warrants a perma-ban.

Ya know, one of the reasons that prohibition didnt last, was becuase it cost the government to much to enforce it. Its just a matter of time till certain rules will fade away becuase moderators will spend more time scanning over posts looking for "banned" words, than actually enjoying what this forum has to offer.

You can't dissuade an idiot from being an idiot. If someone didn't read the rules the first time, there isn't much of a chance they will read the rules the second time around (with a few exceptions of course).

it might bring more people to read the rules, but it more-so hands out the perma-ban because the rules were right in front of their eyes rather than having to search for them(which apparently everyone is too lazy to do)

word censering in the admin controles there should be a way to make it so that NHT words cant be posted at all

( I have bin a admin on other forums in the past )

Yeah me too... there are definitely ways to censor it, but I think that the end goal is people not talking about it at all, not just being able to weasel around the words themselves.

is there an reference when signing up that this forum has certain rules? or are you just expected to see the "announcement" at the top of the forum and read it? because honestly, if its not something that's somewhat obvious....i can see why people are missing it....

now, if there's something that indeniably tells you that you need to read the forum rules...then i vote for a 30 day ban....then perma-ban.

Forum rules are sticked in every forum. There is a blue banner labelled "HF Rules...." on every page.
