I think the 30 day then perma sounds fair. I think a warning should be given for Johns coals, I would personally call them that even knowing about the drug reference as those ARE the name of his coals and I wouldn't know what else to call them if I just started. The NHT reference have been happening much more recently it seems, something should be done besides posting about everyone that got banned or suspended, though that should be blatantly obvious its not aloud. Maybe have everyone take a quiz after reading the rules after they click that they accept, if they get one wrong give them this: nono.gif haha.

And yes NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD did click your link... not becuase of the girls wanting to meet me, more for the former smiley-angry021.gif

Even I got banned once, yes I broke rule # 2 I got too exited about finding a hookah made out of glass and mentioned the style I wanted- anyways my point is if I had been perma banned for that as a first offense that would have been a bit silly.
However if I said something like "guys last night I scored a.... and my friends and I .... and we were totally..... I vote perma ban, we don't need those types of people.

HOW ABOUT BAN POLLS? someone earns a ban and we vote 7, 14, 30 or perma ban? that would be really kickass!!!! then I still get my walk of shame! dance2.gif

[yoda]
when stray to the darkside they do, walk of shame they must.

vote yes, for ban poll i do.

lol

make a sticky for walk of shame.

name and shame!!! plus state reasons for ban.

or, maybe not a sticky, cos when someone gets a banning, the thread will get
bumped to the top, so more people will be aware.

As a new member, let me give you my thoughts on the subject.

I did mention John's coals by their name once in the chat, and got corrected for it, and for that I'm very sorry. After being corrected I immidiately went and read the rules, or more specifically the list of unmentionable names.

The thing is, this list should be pointed out very clearly. I spend a lot of time, on a lot of different forums. I consider myself to have quite good forum etiquette. I know the do's and don'ts of internet forums, so whenever I get the "Read the rules" I usually neglect to do so, however arrogant that may be.

In my opinion, the best thing to do is take it case by case. Talking back when you get corrected should just be instant permaban, since these people are never going to be of any good contributing factor to a forum. Obviously a mistake like the one I made myself - I would consider 30 days harsh, but accept it, since I broke the rules, however unintended it might have been.

I just think you should be careful with a zero tolerance line, since you might "get" the wrong people. But in the end, if it's turning out to be too much of a hassle, too much of an annoyance, then it might be he only way to go. Edited by TobiasKM

i say permanent ban..im constantly telling people to not use the C word when revering to johns coals..im also sick of them telling me its there amendment right to talk about whatever..i wish we had a better way to report chatroom convo's because its happens in there 1-3 times a day and im always telling them yo watch your mouth..we dont need that here..and you know how know it all children are..but ive put my vote in perma ban!!!..when you commit a felony cops dont give you a warning your ass is going to jail...and on the forum with our hobby those words are considered felonies

There is some confusion in the rules, or maybe it's just me. It was clear on my first reading not to discuss NHT stuff, but you are going to catch a lot of new people talking about John's coals not thinking that they are talking about NHT, because in their minds they are not, they are just talking about coals. There seems to be a hidden list of no-no words that I am still not totally clear on because I do not have much knowledge on NHT stuff, so I guess I'm at risk to be perma banned at some point. Even a 30 day ban I would probably lose interest and go somewhere else. Not sure what the right answer is to this problem.

if anyone doesn't know the C word is associated with illegal drugs raise your hand and just let mush zap your account right now

I didn't know, and I'm glad your not a mod

question: you know how we got a list for banned vendors? can we not have a list of banned words?

you know, just to point out to people who infringe or shatter the rules to say 'look at banned words thread. you have no defence.'

listing the words would defeat the purpose bro..reason why the words can not be said is cause google will pick it up right away and will bring the wrong type of people to this forum..

Yeah, but when they see how it was used they would move on, since it was not what they were looking for.

New idea:

There is another forum I go on that is unrelated to smoking, but how it works is that you have to "apply" for membership.

In actuality, they just accept all members at the beginning of every month. But if you applied near the end of a month, you would have to wait for the next month to be over. Basically, you cannot post for 30 or so days.

So if someone wants to be a member, he/she has to apply, and in that time he/she will check out the forum and see that it "those" topics are not permitted.

If you want to stick to the already formed system, I disagree with the giant slap on the wrist initially. People make mistakes, it happens.

First offense: 24-48 Hour ban. Second offense: Perma-ban. No exceptions.

but, if its a locked thread, and at the top in BIG bold words saying that using the following words will
cause you to be perma banned.

then a list of NHT stuff...

wait, just had an idea whilst typing this.

what about a thread made by an admin that links to a dictionary type site?
setup is like;

This Word or any word in this subject area will mean that you get PERMA banned.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

instead of the word example(above link), it would link to a NHT word or device.

its not perfect, but it makes it plain that NHT/device is not welcome here. Edited by Priapus

Well, this has produce an interesting thread. And some good ideas as well.

The problem in general has been hit on by several people. Most people just aren't going to read the rules if you made them flash and dance accross the screen, others are going to just figure they don't apply to them. We started with a day or two vacation, then went to a week, then 2 weeks, now we are headed to 30 days, because frankly, if you can't be bothered to read the rules, you are just going to cause us other problems later anyways.

And it's not just me making this forum work. It's Johnny_d, Sonthert, Camelflage, Canon, and our monthly Guest Mod. who this month happens to be r1v3th3ad. They really do most of the work around here. And no, we don't read every post so we rely heavily on members like yourselves to report problems. And we appriciate you folks doing that more than you can know.

My feelings on this, and most of the mods will atleast agree on principle, is that there shouldn't be a need to hold people's hands to make sure they follow the rules they are supposed to have read when they signed up. At this point you get a confirmation e-mail and a link to follow to activate/validate your membership. Some of you older members didnt have to go through this so you may not have been aware it's in place now. So there are several places where a new member is told to read the rules and by submitting for an account you have to agree that you will read and follow the rules.
Frankly, if you are unable to follow 15 or so simple rules that you have agreed to read, we really don't necessarily need you around. There are plenty of other people who can probably contribute the same stuff who CAN follow the rules so why bother with the idiots?
As for John's coals. I dont believe we give out actual suspensions for calling them by name. I BELIEVE that we just change it to CH and send a warning.
So i'll discuss it with the other mods in the mean time, please keep discussing this, i find it quite helpful as well as refreshing that this has actually stayed civil and on target, except for you NOB and we are going to have a long talk real soon.

World filtering would be good idea IMHO. Changing Ch****c Hookah Coals to CH Coals automatically would prevent, I think, the majority of complete accidents. People don't talk in real life as they would on the forums so if a person isn't used to saying CH they are susceptible to making an easy mistake.

This is all John's fault. wink.gif
