I think phunnel sucks too. I tried to follow every packing method I saw online. I have been smoking daily since 1994. I did not like the Vortex too. I usually smoke for 1-2 hours max in each session and egyptian has done the job.

I am willing to give those another try but not with my favorite shisha AF double apple. I have not tried them with Tangiers yet. I actually pack my Egyptian in a similar way that a phunnel or vortex would work. I always leave the middle empty. This gives me an easier pull and more flavor for some reason.

I am not flaming and I hope I did not come along with this as aggressive but I SWEAR I TRIED smile.gif...

I still like to show off my phunnel and Vortex to newbies just to show them how much they do not know about hookah tongue.gif. hehehehe

I stayed out of this thread specifically just to watch how people would respond without my level headed fair and balanced view laugh.gif

But first off I entirely disagree with the phunnel being a bad bowl, however, i do so with the knowledge that just like anything else it's my opinion so I respect those who disagree with me.

TwoApples, to be honest I had an issue with the phunnel when I first got it, it wasn't heaven right away and I struggled choosing between it and my egyptians. However, over time and many, many experiments I love it. Although i do keep a healthy amount of egyptian bowls on hand for when I get the urge to use them. Even though there were many people who may have stated their opinion in a not entirely polite way, on both sides of the argument, I hope it doesn't dissuade you from trying the phunnel again in the future, or even disagreeing with popular opinion.

I have strong opinions on certain things, I'm sure mattarios can attest to that. But even if my opinions are always right wink.gif doesn't mean everyone shares them. Just playing.

As far as the 6+ hour sessions I used to be in the same boat, I didn't believe people could ever get more than a few hours, if that. In fact one of my first posts when I joined was bragging about a 4 hour session I got with a great mix in an egyptian bowl and I had people explaining how they were able to get significantly more than that. But in my experience my sessions have gotten longer and longer and more satisfying with the phunnel than I have gotten with my egyptians. Remember though, it's just my experience.

So stay strong, keep using what you like, and hopefully in the future no one, including myself will attempt to bait or incite any arguments on any side. Although it will happen, maybe the vacations will humble everyone a little.

First, I can't believe how upset and angry everyone reacted towards twoapple's opinion. ITS AN OPINION! Its not like he's accusing Eric of being the hookah antichrist. We should all respect each other's opinions, no matter how much you think the said persons are wrong.

But referring to my quote, I have to agree with liquidglass, here. I didn't like my small phunnel the first time I got it... To be specific, I didn't like it the first two months I had it, but I was persistent to make this thing work; until just recently I hadn't gotten it to smoke to its full potential. During that time I was able to enjoy my sessions more with my traditional MYA bowl than my new(and expensive) phunnel. But now that I have learned how to pack my favorite shisha in the phunnel, I can say that I enjoy my sessions more than I ever had with my MYA bowl. And I'm happy, but I wouldn't defend it like it's my only child, like some of the members have exhibited here. It's just a bowl. Edited by dizzbizz

I guess its time for the truth to come out.

Every person who has ever bought a phunnel bowl...I now own your soul. The phunnel has a very special soul catcher designed into it. Its in the fine print...you guys should have read closer:

From a website selling official Tangiers phunnels:
QUOTE (Anonymous Retail Website)
Purchasing this bowl will result in the forfeiture of your immortal soul. Purchase at your own risk.

Don't worry, twoapples, people thought I was crazy when I said I could make a better bowl. Maybe I am. I think Egyptian bowls are better for certain applications. I don't use them, but they definitely have their strong points. Thats why I still make (but don't have a lot of people buying wink.gif) "standard" bowls. What I like to do if I don't finish a bowl is either relight it (Its much easier with the phunnel, since the juices don't drain down into the jar when your not using it) or take off the dried upper layer and replace it with a new top layer, recycling the uncooked bottom layer.

The sad truth is, Tangiers fans feel like they don't get respect. I feel that way sometimes, too. I know it sounds funny, but all the threads about it not acclimating, it doesn't smoke right, the majority of us who don't have any problems whatsoever are incredulous at people who have sparingly few successes. People who don't have success assume its based on zip code, people who do have success assume its user error for the people who don't like it. In terms of the phunnels, so many people like them more than the tobacco, they feel like the phunnel is something new and better. It is new, I would say its revolutionary (for now), but it certainly isn't the best choice in all applications, otherwise mods wouldn't have to have been invented. Like I always say, nothing is all things to all people, and the phunnel is no exception. You're living proof. Keep up the faith or lack of smile.gif...Trust me, I got the same sort of reactions when I started making bowls, too...I do understand what you're going through. Its tough to be on the vanguard. Don't listen to them...keep using your Egyptian Bowl, or whatever works best for you. Just try to think of Tangiers every now and then, I'm still thinking of ways to make things better, even if this one wasn't a smashing success for you. smile.gif

If your interested, one of the more common problems is overpacking for people making the switch. If you overpack an Egyptian (around the edges), no problem, it will fix itself in 10 minutes or so. With a phunnel...wait 45 minutes...and it will still be a problem, because the tobacco is still drawing juice up into the foil.
