thehelios
Hey yall.Need a little input on this. Someone on craigslist is selling a blue KM single pear brand new with all the stuff (base, hose, bowl, etc.) for $75. Is this a good deal? I'm trying not to be impulsive on this but I have until tomorrow morning (9/22/09) to make a decision. Is this worth it?Here's a picture of it: Edited September 23, 2009 by thehelios
Zinite
Yeah I'd say that is a good deal. It looks like an older model (usually considered better) Nazar has the newer single pears for like $95. Go for it.

Chreees
Btw, how much does the person want for that Mya with the Obelisk base? Looks sexy. Know it's not the Obelisk stem, but still looks good. If it's a good price, I'd be willing to pay you to get it my way.Hell, for that price I wouldn't mind you picking up a KM for me either, instead of the Mya... thehelios
I'd give out a link but I want to keep this underwraps until after the transfer since it's the only one he has left.QUOTE (INCUBUSRATM @ Sep 22 2009, 08:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Btw, how much does the person want for that Mya with the Obelisk base? The guy was liquidating his business so most of that stuff is gone.

Jabbles180
You might want to check the "tray" undre the ash catcher. It looks somewhat thick and i've seen knockoff pears that look just like a KM but there are a few signs of it not being a KM. I cant tell from the picture but if the lip that the ash tray sits on looks like a "star" then more than likely its the knock offs i've seen in shops. The only other thing that really gives the knockoffs away are the vases but this one seems to have a KM vase so i may be completely wrong. But the knockoffs were selling for about 35-40 when i last checked to 75 wouldnt be the best. If it is a KM then go for it. I love my blue pear and it cost me about 10 15 dollars more. ngraz617
Just go to the hookahstore.com and buy a new KM tri metal for $80.00 with everything 20% off they are having some great sales. Spend 150 get free shipping. If you smoke SB you wont believe their price, It's so cheap I had to do a double take.

thehelios
Well, I checked it out and turned it down. From what I think what a KM is supposed to be like, this was not it. The stem was the same in weight as my Mya mini acrylic stem (the "KM" stem was lighter than any of my large hookah stems), the pear was cracked and felt like cheap plastic and it also wiggled alot in its place, and the vase was also a bit sketchy. It had arabic writing at the ash tray plate at the top of the stem but the actual ash tray looked generic. Also the box it came in was some random cardboard box and not the KM box I've seen in pictures. The only thing that looked authentic was the hose. Are any of my assumptions wrong or did I just pass up on an authentic KM?
Zinite
If it felt cheap in person, you made the right decision. The pear being cracked drops the price significantly.
mattarios2
I wouldn't have bought it after inspecting it and seeing what you saw.Good move
joytron
Even if it was a km the point of buying kms is that you assume they are of higher quality. No sense in buying a peice of crap with a nice name.
Jabbles180
Your reply makes me think this was one of the KM knock offs I've seen popping up around my area. Like others said you made a good move. Why buy a pipe that is known for quality if its not quality to begin with?Makes me think he put a KM hose on the knock off or it came with it to make it seem even more real. I've actually seen this happen at the shop i know that is stoking these pipes. The thing is the knock offs that i see even sound better quality then you described. With a bit of searching you will find what you want in your price range. Just wait it out and find the pipe you are looking for in the quality it should be in. thehelios
Thanks for the replys yall. He kept trying to tell me that "no one bootlegs KM's" and then I chuckled to myself. I guess I'll check out some of the sites other users posted in this topic.

There are Egyptian hookahs that all look VERY similar. It doesn't stem from companies trying to rip off KMs. KM is just a small shop in Egypt, and they produce a very small percentage of the total amount of Egyptians.
