Whats Up With The New Phunnel Colors

Recommended Posts

I picked up a dark blue solid color medium phunnel from HJ a while ago, so they use to exist, non-chinese.

I dunno, I just got a small purple and black phunnel in, was a little disappointed. I was happy to have another phunnel, as my brown one got chipped (going to fix it), but I was hoping for one that was the same size or a little smaller, but keeping the height. Unfortunately, the purple/black one is shorter and wider, exactly what I was hoping not to happen. But owell, got another phunnel and I am glad Eric makes them in the first place, best hookah bowls ever! One thing I did notice is the reason my brown one fell off my hookah and chipped was because it doesn't fit very well on my KM with the gasket. This new purple one fits a ton better.

The color of the phunnel doesn't really matter to me, there could be rainbows and ponies(thanks KBB, you know what I am talking about tongue.gif) on it for all I care, I am more concerned with the functionality of it.

#1. You can order any color/size/style of phunnel you want. IF you're willing to pay for it. PM me for more details. Wait times can be excruciating. I keep over 30 colors of glazes in stock. There's even two different reds. About 8 blues, 10 greens, etc. Some colors have never been even made in production for several years.

#2. Some bowls that were made more recently had holes that were at the smallest size in tolerances due to a production error. It isn't your imagination. Try taking the gasket off the hookah, putting it in the bowl (halfway up the gasket), and then try inserting the bowl/gasket onto the hookah. Its only a problem for the fat tapers of Egyptian pipes. It should pose no problems for Syrians or Chinese pipes.

#3. Sizes do vary for a number of reasons. They're handmade is one explanation, putting production guidelines down for artists is a little like giving a hurricane a roadmap so it can avoid populated areas.

#4. John and I wanted to put out some new, novel color schemes. leaning towards x/white more. There they are. Hate them? Order something else. Put together an order of ten or twenty bowls of the same color scheme and talk to John about bulk pricing.

Is it just me, or is it hard to put Tangier's small phunnel on the KM with the grommet??
Do you guys use the grommet for the small phunnel or smoke without it?

It's not just you. We have KM's at our lounge and serve them with phunnel bowls. I found we couldn't even securely fit the egyptian bowl it came with on it with the grommet.

There are a couple of solutions.

First, do what Eric said and put the grommet into the bowl before you fit the whole assembly onto the stem.

Second, when new, those grommets are really stiff. Try forcing it down the stem as far as you possibly can. This will stretch the rubber making it thinner and easier for the bowl to fit onto.

Third, do what we did and get rid of the grommet entirely. I found that a few wrappings of electrical tape work just as well with a fraction of the thickness of a grommet.

Just my $0.02

Hope you didn't take my comment as an insult by any means. I absolutely love my phunnels, my smoking has never been better w/o them. I completely understand the sizes vary...I knew that when ordering the phunnel and when I order another, I know it will be a different size than the ones I have now, totally understandable.

I like the multicolor bowls. It's different from all the other bowls you buy!

I only have two solid color phunnels, my Mini and my Large. Rest of my phunnels my smalls, and superchief are all multi colored.

Guess it's a preference thing.
