liquidglass
A week or so ago I was at a party with some friends and got a little more messed up than I had planned being dehydrated. Well my phone was fine for the whole night then when I got back to my apartment I saw with horror that something strange had happened, my screen had cracked. On a phone that retailed for $500 and got on ebay about 6 months ago for $250 brand new. Obviously this was a bad thing. Here's how it looked.Needless to say I needed a new phone and quickly. I could only use about 5% of the screen and that really wasn't helpful lol. So I set out to buy a new one when my brother reminded me I could try to change the screen. So that's what I did.I found a screen complete with tools for about $30 and a help video on youtube. Got the screen and commenced to fixing it. Here's the phone fully taken apart.Needless to say I didn't expect the phone to be 6 layers plus battery/back cover. But with it already apart time to put on the new screen. I have various pictures of that process but they honestly would be boring. So we'll cut to the chase and here's the phone good as new.As you can guess I was stoked to have it fully working on the first try. I took my time and maintained hookah during so the whole process took about an hour, but it sure beats the hell out of buying a new phone and transferring everything. So take it as a lesson if you crack your screen, touch screen or not just buy a new one, learn a new skill and save some money!
ashes87
Thats pretty cool. Im about to have to do the same thing to an XBOX 360 that got the red rings of death because I have seen different guides on how to repair that and it looks simple enough, just time consuming more than anything. Jeff_T
Awesome, well done liquid. I recently got a new BB and added the insurance, although its $7/mon. + $50 replacement fee, its much better than paying about $500 for a replacement. Not anywhere near as in depth but I replaced my old 4th gen iPod battery last month and it was a great investment. Practically new iPod for about $25. The internet is filled with awesome tutorials... Only problem I have with the insurance plans is 1) didn't upgrade my phone just bought a new one on ebay and didn't feel like protecting it and 2) over the 2 year contract you end up paying about $270 which IMO just isn't worth it for as occasional as things happen to my phone lol. But if i had more cash for my monthly bill I'd probably do it.
