mattarios2
If you are getting a whistle and a worse draw pack more in the bowl. It is all preference but I poke 3-4 holes in the middle of my phunnel and I get monster clouds. Def pack more in the bowl. There are no down sides. Therefore the same amount of air will be coming through
mattarios2
if there isn't enough tobacco in the bowl, it allows the foil to get sucked down on top of the hole, causing no air flow. If the tobacco is packed high, the foil rests against the tobacco, therefore the tobacco doesn't allow the foil to reach the hole.Make-ah Sensa? twoapplesplease
+1 for matterios2 on the extra tobacco in the phunnel, pack it high and tight.Or you could just break out the old egyptian FTW.sorry had too
joytron
when you dont have enough packed the foil kinda sits on the center hole causing restriction(packing more will create a gap between hole and foil). THis could also be do to the fact that the center hole is too high on your phunnel. in which case sand it down.

Nutshell
From my experiences if the foil is getting sucked on top of the hole it just means you're not putting the foil on tight enough.I also have an older phunnel. Maybe the hole got higher with the newer models.=P

Zinite
I never put holes in the center. It's just me making this up right now, but I feel like it allows air to bypass the tobacco.
Hippo_Master
It always fucks up my session and dampens the flavor quality quite a bit.
mattarios2
It works for some, and it doesn't work for others ... just like everything in life. But OP if you ARE having pull or draw issues, it is most likely the foil. That is, if you already ruled out it being other things.
ryno
Use Heavy Duty foil. I've found it smokes better and doesnt get sucked over the center hole at all. Like mattarios said, just pack the phunnel to the rim if not a little above. As to holes in the middle, sometimes I do, sometimes I dont.

JDHarding
My method is simple..Take chunks of shisha, and fill the phunnel, piling it up about an inch above the rim. Use a fork and pack it down so it's a little below the rim, and the shisha level is slanted down towards the center hole's rim. Foil over it (shiny side down!). 3 rings of small toothpick or large needle sized holes around the shisha part, 5 little holes in the exact center. Smokes beautifully. It's basically the same method that Hookah John and Tangiers Eric use.

I have tried both, and prefer a closed center with no holes, rings on the outside (or lately, I've tried poking holes only where the coals will be with moderate to good success as well).-Z
dizzbizz
I never poke holes in the middle. I tried it once and didn't see any difference. But every once in a while the foil gets sucked in the phunnel's hole so I take off the foil and add shisha to lift the foil. Its fixed and I enjoy my 3 hour bowl. whitesnake395
Personally, I never poke holes in the middle, it does mix too much air with the smoke in my opinion. What I always do though to keep the foil from getting sucked onto the hole is break a toothpick in thirds and put it over the hole, like a bridge. Works liek a charm every time. JDHarding
The only problem with poking holes in the center is.. once the coals get smaller, the smoke gets weaker. Might want to stave off poking holes in the center. I do it just to get more air through.
Voliminal
I've never used phunnel, but i realy dont think this hole is ok.We want hot air to flow through shisha, by making that hole hot air comes in the hole and through the stem without any flavour or anything. Just plain air.If u have issues like hole stucks from foil, buy a tangiers phunnel, or use a mod. Glass mod or the one with the metal clippers to rise the foil a little bit.
