Keep flipping it another minute until it stays orange on top.
mitchard
The Walgreens one works great.I haven't seen a Walmart coil burner. I know the Walmart hotplates have been discussed before, but those will not work.
gunsboy
Congratz, you will never go back to QLs.I modified my coal carrier to work better with coconaras. I added a metal mesh instead of placing those coals right on top the bottom or ashes from a previous session so the lower side of the coal would stay lit.Seems that Coconut charcoals are very similar. I have been looking for an alternative for coconaras because they are impossible to get around here.
SynysterPhoenix
I bought my first box of naturals about a month ago, and last week i went over my friends house and used my QL's that i had left. Huge difference, never using QL's again unless i have to.

ih303
Gratz on your departure from the dark side. Sure, they might take a bit longer, but I think we all agree, the wait is worth it.Definately consider exploring the world of nats before you settle down with Cocos. IMO, Cocos are way overpriced and are not that much different from CH or AF nats. John makes a fantastic coal, and the price is right. Definately worth a try. LJ04
once i tried coco's i never went back, either. about lighting them on a gas stove... i recently went to a friend's and he had a gas stove. "got a wire cookie rack?" so he pulled out his wife's cookie rack and that worked well. anything that lets the flame get to it should work. Ever since ive been using them they have been amazing. The only problem like others said is the heat time. Although you get hardley any ash. It was funny, I ran out of coco's the other day so I had to run down to the local head shop to pick up some quicklights. They only had some called fujima so I picked em up. When I got back and tried them the ash was like a huge marshmello.Cocos FTW!

ih303
In my experience, I have not noticed any significant difference between Coco's, CH's, and AF's. All are nats, roughly the same size, made from coconut shells, and seem to last about the same time. The only difference I've observed (other than the price ) is that the consistency of the charcoal used to make Coco's seems to be finer resulting in a finer ash. But is the finer ash really worth that much more? I think not.
