twoapplesplease
[attachment=4217:egyptian...wide_001.JPG]just to give a idea on how to use the overpack method with nakhla and shallow wide egyptian bowls.I did mangle the foil abit on this one, but nakhla is very forgiving and it'll still smoke like a champ. twoapplesplease
[attachment=4220:egyptian...wide_007.JPG]use a big poker like a bambo skewer or the mya poker that comes with the mya tongs and poke large deep holes. And also poke the center hole clear threw the center hole of the bowl and sorta reem it out for lack of a better term so that you can see threw it. the_cool
Holy nahkla packing batman! (pun intended)Thats probably the first time Iv seen a bowl packed like that! Can you get a pic of the coals on the bowl?
twoapplesplease
I don't have a pic of the coals on the bowl but I can tell you this.1 40mm golden/3 kings and a wind cover will smoke this bowl perfectlyor 3 broken halfs of coco's will do very well also.Thats 1 and a half coco's broken in half.or about a 2 inch piece of a finger coal
twoapplesplease
just like too add that this is for about a 45-55 min smoke session and the coals will die exactly when the tobacco is finished. Its no problem to pack it up agin if you desire to smoke longer also gives ya a short break and a chance to change up the flavor. twoapplesplease
No you wont get alot of ash in there because you wont hardly need to touch the coals.I only have to touch the coals once or twice to ash them for the whole session. delSol_si
Nice! Would this bowl work? I think it might be made out of a different material than yours tho...
twoapplesplease
Its a good way to have a short session and save on tobacco and coals. The large holes are needed to provide good airflow for the tightly packed nakhla. You shouldn't have too worry about ash gitting in the hole unless you are constantly moving them around witch is not neede because its a small bowl.just place a large coal dead center or 3 halfs of cocos in a tringle pattern near the center. And use a wind cover for heat mangment or a foil crown on the bowl.you'll get a good smoke with nice clouds and flavor nearlly the whole 45-55 min. life of the bowl. twoapplesplease
that bowl should work well although its a bit shallower and wider, so I would mound up the tobacco a little more. And maybee opt for the foil crown over a wind cover on that paticular bowl. twoapplesplease
also del I would be sure to poke up threw the outside holes from the bottom on that bowl, but not up threw the foil just to loosen the tobacco abit around the edges of that wide bowl. McLovin600
I have a bowl very similar to yours and I will be tryign this out this weekend and let you know. dumb question: how come it doesnt burn? Also is there a reason 3 half cocos are better than 2 full ones?
twoapplesplease
Its just a matter of how big your exact bowl is as egyptians are all so different in size and shape.for my bowl 2 whole coco's is too much but 1 is not enuff.so using 3 halfs worked very well.2 coco's maybee the way to go on del sol si's bowl seeing as it might be just a bit wider than mine.and if you pack nakhla real tight it can take the heat very well and give off some nice clouds and flavor. delSol_si
Ha, i know it is a retarded bowl! thanks twoapples, I am going to try your method this weekend and report back. When I got these bowls in, I almost threw them away, but figured it is worth a shot smoking them before tossing them.
