Just Used Hookah For A Speech Topic For College

Recommended Posts

So today I had to make a demonstrative speech for my public speaking class so I showed the class what a hookah was and how its used. I wanted to see who else used hookah for a college class. Here is my outline so you can get a feel for what I talked about. I must say the speech went really well and I had the attention of everyone in the room.

Introduction
What does a talking caterpillar, ancient Turkish kings, and over 100 million people around the world have in common? The answer is they all smoke hookah. Now then you might be asking yourself what is a hookah? Good afternoon I’m Joseph Gutierrez and I’m going to explain to what a hookah is and how its used. First I’m going to explain to you the different parts of the hookah and how to set up the pipe, then I will show you the tobacco and how to pack a bowl, and last but not least I’ll teach you the most important thing for a successful hookah session and that is the type of coals and heat management skills. I have been smoking hookah for three years now. I was first introduced to it at a cocktail party and fell in love with the social aspect of smoking hookah. The very next day my friend and I went to a hookah bar and when we got home we went online and ordered our very first pipe. After a few months of trial and error I finally managed to get it right and have been smoking hookah ever since.
TRANSITION INTO EXPLAINING THE HOOKAH’S PARTS AND BAISIC SET UP
1. Identify parts of the hookah
A. Stem goes into the base
B. Hose goes into hose port
C. Bowl goes on top of stem
2. Put the hookah together

TRANSITION INTO THE TOBACCO AND BOWL PACKING

1. Show and them the tobacco
2. Show them the bowl
A. Pack the tobacco in the bowl
B. Now it’s time to foil the bowl
C. Now it’s time to poke the holes in the foil
TRANSITION INTO COALS AND HEAT MANAGEMENT
1. Explain the different types of coals
A. Quicklights
B. Naturals
2. Windcover
TRANSITION INTO CONCLUSION
So In conclusion today you learned what a hookah is and how it’s used. I taught you what the parts of a hookah are and basic setup, what the tobacco was and how to pack a bow, and the types of coals and heat management. I want to leave you all with a quote that a 71 year old man from Turkey said "Cigarettes are for nervous people, competitive people, people on the run. When you smoke a hookah, you have time to think. It teaches you patience and tolerance, and gives you an appreciation of good company. Hookah smokers have a much more balanced approach to life than cigarette smokers."

I did one for a sociology project in the spring semester.
We basically had to find a high ped traffic area and observe people talking, how they acted, and body language.
So i just had a few people come over and told them to bring some friends for a tangiers session......to my surprise about 25 people showed up so we just moved it to the basement.

Every now and then id get up go do something and when i came back id sit in the back away from everyone and take some notes.
My professor said it was the most creative one hes seen so far and i ended up getting a 98 after the class presentation.

See kids, school projects can be fun! Edited by tpatt90

I have not incorporated hookah into any of my college courses however a friend of mine recently did just that. He and a group made a business plan on opening up a hookah lounge...It was kinda easy for him considering he is going to open one when he graduates from college lol.

Sounds like a great speech Toxik, well done. I wish I could have seen a speech like this or about hookah in college, would have been very entertaining, much more than any other speech I've seen.
