Lounge Revenue?

Recommended Posts

I am finishing up some things from my business plan and am wondering if we are going to make in on the rent for the building we will be leasing for our hookah lounge- since there is no agency that reports the revenue of hookah lounges, I was wondering if any lounge owners out there might me willing to let me know what their monthly revenue is. Thanks!

technically it is illegal to smoke tobacco inside a public establishment so some places have switched to herbal.
but there are still some places that serve tobacco indoors.
i would still rather smoke my own stuff. afterall, that is why i bought my own stuff.

Where are you opening a lounge?

The problem with coming up with figures like that is there are too many variables. I know of lounges that make $20-$40k/month and some that can't even pay their bills. It's a very fickle business with a very narrow market segment.

Why don't you post the details about your lounge and about the area you'll be setting it up in, including any competition. That might help in figuring out if you will be able to make your rent. tongue.gif

I wish I had an answer for ya on the revenue.I'm sure it varies greatlly from lounge to lounge.

I'll be sure to drop by next time I'm in wyoming.I'd drive all the way from dubois just too see you and check out the lounge.

We are opening up in Casper Wy. I think our population is somewhere around 75,000. There is 1, soon to be 2 lounges in a city about 2.5 hours away. A lot of the younger crowd drives to these nearby places to go to hookah lounges, and since we will be the only one in Casper, we should get that business. We have 1 college, not a lot of military or mid east population, but we do have the highest percentage of smokers in the country. Also, Wyoming has pretty high median income (due to the oil field) which results in a lot of rich kids smile.gif The location we are looking at is downtown, and the rent will be 1500-2000 p/month depending on the length of the lease. I found a really great $900 a month location right across the street, but the plumbing inspector said we would pretty much need to change ALL of the plumbing, so that is out of the question. We wont be doing alcohol because we dont fit in to any of the liquor license categories, but we will have some food, and obviously be selling some shisha/hookahs as well. Hope this helps! thanks!

Thanks, love to meet ya. That little lounge in Riverton claimed to make 60k a month (lol) I highly doubt this is true, because if it were, they would still be open. Some of the other lounges somewhat nearby didnt want to share much info with me, They arent close, but prob still close to want to help me out.

take a random survey of 100 people and see who would come and smoke and how often and how much then find out what % 100 is of the population X minutes away and multiple. that would be my guess give or take 10%

I did a petition to see who would come, but everyone I asked signed it, so im not sure if they really meant it or if they were just being nice

Casper, huh? Wow. We're like four hours away in Rapid City, SD.

According to Wikipedia, your metro population in 2000 was 66k while ours was 120k. Our median incomes are roughly the same as well as our climates. We have five colleges vs. your two, and we have two military installations. Our rent on our downtown location is ~$2400/month plus utilities. We also do not currently have alcohol but are working on getting our beer license. We stopped serving food but have that option open to us for the future.

From strictly a numbers POV, it would seem we are in a better location for a lounge. I have no idea if that is actually true, but what I do know is running a lounge here is DAMN HARD. The problem with small cities like ours is that most people are very conservative. Not many trendsetters around here. If you want to do well as a business here, you cater to your extremely average, run-of-the-mill, abercrombie-wearing bro and bro-ette. Since we refuse to do that (i.e. don't play rap), we struggle. Granted, we're doing relatively well now, but it has been a hard road. In fact, we bought the lounge from the previous owner who ran the place for a year before it went out of business. She just couldn't hack it. I mean, business in this town is completely sporadic. You'll have a Friday night where you make $800, then a Saturday night where you'll make $170. Then the next weekend, you'll make $800 on both nights, and the next weekend you'll make $200 both nights. There's no pattern, no formula, no reason, just fickle, small-city silliness.

I could ramble on for pages but I'll stop myself there. If you have any questions, I'm more than willing to help. And if you're ever in the area, stop by. We're called Ifrits, and we're located at 725 St Joseph St in downtown Rapid City.

Lol well were one of your competitors. (Hypnotic Hookah) We just opened in Cheyenne, but our main lounge is in Fort Collins (Narghile Nights). For th building thats 900 a month it is the responsibility of the owner to fix the plumbing if its not up to code not yours. So look into it more. The best thing i can tell you is the lower your rent the more money you make. Rent is your biggest expense next to employees.

lol, well i doubt we will hurt you...much (j/k) I have not been to the cheyenne one. we were @ narghile nights awhile ago, cool place smile.gif I heard cheyenne was getting another one. Do you guys do ok in a city the size of cheyenne? we have to get in the game here, someone else has been looking into putting one in casper. i think it was the guy from riverton, but was it you? thanks for the building advice. the guy that owns the place is a real cheap skate, he didnt want to do any lease hold improvements or anything. still, it is a cool older building

...but wyoming isnt exactly a popular state. she said she didnt know toronto which is like someone saying they dont know where some of america's biggest cities are located.
ask someone where california, nevada, florida, new york state are and im pretty sure most people would be able to tell you. ask where wyoming is? LOL.
