How long do golden canary's generally last for you? Aren't they comparable to 3K's?

the canarys last about 30-35 minutes...for me, the biggest selling point is that they promote extreme laziness.

i light 3 coals...and take 4 unlit coals with me...their ability to light off one another allows me the convenience of never having to leave my seat to light more coals while i'm smoking...

b/c they last half the time of cocos and cocos are about 12 cents a coal when you buy boxes in bulk smile.gif

we dont all have the money power you have pimpin smile.gif

1 coco lasts as long as 2 af cocos.

1 coco = 12 cents

1 af coco = 7 cents but lasts half as long 7 x 2 = 14

my point was in the end cocos are 2 cents cheaper, SILLY!

John, actually...they can last a good bit of time if you don't smoke like i do...my normal habit is to pull once every 2-5 seconds...so, i think with that much smoking...a lot of coals will dwindle fairly quickly...

with a more chillaxed pulling routine, my AF cocos were about halfway done around 45 minutes...and still putting out decent heat. like i said, they lasted longer than an episode of Sons of Anarchy...

i'm not sure how long a whole CCN would last, because i normally work with halves...

the benefits that i see CCN has over the AF cocos are:

1. CCNs ash is very fine. The AFs ash is about twice as thick as CCNs, yet it does fall off on its own when the KM rumbles.

2. a whole CCN will last longer than an AF coco...a good amount of time more, but not a lot more

the bennies of the AF cocos:

1. Nearly 50% of the cost and maybe 90% of the performance of CCNs. Good tradeoff.

Just think of the AF cocos as a value brand CCN... smile.gif Edited by Arcane

lol you told me they last half the time, of cocos .... SILLY!

but if you puff that often, then that is for sure a factor.

yeah, they last about 30-35 minutes if i smoke how i normally smoke...but, yesterday i slowed down...took time in between pulls and was able to use 1 round of coals for about an hour...i don't know how much longer it would've gone, because i cut the session short to smoke cigs...

the CCN halves i used were good for a bit under an hour...but, then again...that is HALF a coal...

tonight, i'll use one CCN and 2 AF coals(i'll try to find some roughly the same size as the CCN) and let you know the timelines...

Hmm... let's see. If AF coconut coals last 30-45 minutes, and cocos supposedly last twice as long, that would mean that cocos burn from 1 to 1.5 hrs!! That truly is incredible. I must have gotten a bad batch because mine only burned for 30-45 minutes. tongue.gif

I have some Cocos, some AF's, and some CH's that I plan on using for a study as well. This needs to be settled once and for all. The more studies we have the better!

k, not really a review...i'm just putting up the comparison pics...

[attachment=4405:IMG_3790.JPG]
and they're off!! the one on the right is the CCN, the 2 on the left are AFs...and yes, that's 3 coals on a mini...

[attachment=4406:IMG_3792.JPG]
15 minutes...the CCN developed a thin layer of ash, while the AFs ashed over completely. on the corners of the AFs, the ash fell off on their own.

[attachment=4407:IMG_3793.JPG]
30 minutes...sorry, i know its hard to tell, but there's a thick layer of ash on the AFs...the CCN is fully ashed over but somehow shrunk too. Edited by Arcane

45 minutes....the CCN is on top. the AFs are on bottom. as you can see, the CCN is just slightly bigger than the AFs.

i don't have further pics, but you can see that AFs are just a step behind CCNs in terms of longevity. the biggest difference is the heat output...CCNs are hot as hell....the AFs are about on par with CH coals. also, near the tailend of the session....the AFs became somewhat brittle. if you picked them up with your tongs...they'd crack. the same thing happened with the CCNs, but you had to squeeze a bit harder to get them to break.

note: the bowl did get smokey, but not really harsh...i just wanted to use 1 CCN and 2 AFs....in, hindsight...i probably should've used my big small phunnel instead of the mini....lol. Edited by Arcane

that i'm not really sure...1:1.5 sounds about right though...it's definitely not 1:2....

then again, i am only judging by how hot a hookah tray gets when i transfer the coals from the burner to the bowl...a tray heats up QUICK with 3 CCNs on it...with AFs, i can hold that bugger for a while and it only gets really warm.... Edited by Arcane

Where would one buy Coconara's in bulk? I bought 4 boxes of the shishaco coals when thehookah had them for buy one get one free. I just wanna buy a bunch so I don't have to worry about it later on. I've searched and came up fruitless.
