Brandon`
I have a question about harshness. Me and my cusin were having a session today and my hookah was really harsh, I was using Nak Mint with my Km double pear, 2 Inches above downstem with 4 CH Instant Lights. I thought it was just to much heat, I tryed 3, Purged and smoked was still harsh. I tryed 2, Purged and smoked was still pretty harsh. I even tryed 1 and it was still harsh I don't know what was up with that. I ended up ashing them till they were about half way through and put 2 on and it wasn't really harsh at all. I don't know how to solve this but I have a very sensitive throat and once I cough once i'll be coughing for the whole day and it will basically end my session just like that. I think I know what most of you will say, to break coals in half and spread them all around the bowl but I don't want to try that unless i'm sure it will work because I can't be coughing like that everyday. When I finally got it to work with 2 coals it was so smooth I didn't feel any harshness at all then I eventually put 3 on and it was fine, Nice somewhat thick smoke but plenty of smoke. Any suggestions?
NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
how did you pack the shisha and in what type of bowl? also how did you punch your hole pattern? by the way dont you get water in your house with that much water?
Chreees
I blame your packing technique. I was getting harsh smoke all the time until I got a Tangiers small phunnel and started following mattarios2's Nakhla tutorial. I now NEVER get harsh smoke.EDIT: Also, try putting the water level at 1/2" above the end of the downstem. Brandon`
My packing technique is very similar to Mattarios. I use a Small Tangiers Phunnel bowl and I pack it kind of high because I don't put a whole throught the middle so I don't want it sucking downt he foil. joytron
a lot of times it the bowl needs to cool down. It will stay hot so the smoke will stay harsh

twoapplesplease
Once you burn it your done.Theres no going back.Theres a fine line between getting awsome smoke and burning the crap out of the tobacco.Try double foiling and 3 coals and a wind cover and touch the coals as little as possible.Use your windcover for heat mangment. ilikemyusername
it was prolly harsh because it was nak mint, its an extremely cold smoke.

Only the manliest of men can handle a pure bowl of Nak mint after it's been smoked for 25+ minutes.
Brandon`
I recently tryed it with Nak Cherry and Nak Vanilla/Orange. Was still really harsh. I don't understand what's really going on, I can use 2 coals and eventually it wont be harsh but really small smoke and barely thick. I thought maybe it might be John's coals so I tryed the Cherry with 4 Coco's, Same harshness, Tryed 3, Was slightly harsh, still really good smoke, Took 2, Was barely harsh but barely any smoke and not thick. The Nak Vanilla/Orange mix was with 4 Ch Instant Lights, Was a lil harsh, Took 1 off and it was good for a while but got harsh took 1 off bad smoke again. I haven't yet to have a perfect session. Don't know whats going on. Water level seems to be alright, Might be a little high at that. I haven't tryed yet to double foil it and I don't own a Tangiers sized windcover. Should I try using a regular large egyptian clay bowl instead? Been so long since i've used that I forgot how to pack it.

gtm2007
I think it might also be the quicklights. I smoke CH naturals all the time, so I'm not sure about quicklights, but they might burn hotter and add some bad chemicals if they're not properly lit. Did you check the bowl afterwards to see how much of the shesha you actually burned?
Brandon`
I tryed with Coco's to. They were fully lit. I checked, it was a normal amount basically, maybe a little more then usualy because I recently started not to poke holes in the middle so I started packing it high so it doesn't suck in the foil.
