Help!

So my friend has stopped smoking hookah so she let my friends borrow her hookah (its a Mya hookah not sure which Mya but will check when I get home from work) and since they didn't know much about hookahs they messed it up. They left the water in the vase and the shisha in the bowl for god knows how long.

Since then the hookah is now at my place and I have tried to clean it and smoke out of it but everything just tastes dirty and disgusting. I believe that the stem may be rusted but am not sure. I took a pipe cleaner to it but that did not help. I have changed the hose which helped some but still taste dirty.

Anything else I can try to salvage the hookah or should I just get a new Stem?

A good cleaning with baking soda and lemon juice.The mya's don't rust too easy so it should still be fine.

if its a mya i doubt its rust and a bad stem...i throw my mya stem in the dishwasher (i really do) cleans it fine and ive had it for years... i hope u got a brand new hose. if u just found a hose that could be a problem... 90% of the time its the hose... Edited October 7, 2009 by white_rabbit

I'm a rather new at owning a hookah so bare with this stupid question. Soak it or just wash like i would dishes in baking soda and lemon juice?

good question, if its really that bad i would soak it over night..and coming back to it every hour or so and give it a quick scrubbing..then give it a good cleaning in warm water and give it a try

Formula 420 glass cleaner works very good too

I agree with everyone so far. The hose could be a big portion of the problem and once the hose has "soaked" that nasty taste its almost impossible to get rid of it.

As for the cleaning. I would do as others said keep it in a warm bath. Fill with lemon juice or white vinegar. let it sit and scrub every so often when you think about it. After the bath, which can take as long as over night, scrub with either formula 420 glass cleaner or a lemon/white vinegar and sea salt.

As for the vase fill with water and lemon juice or white vinegar and just let that sit with the mixture in it. If you have a high pressure hose head for the garden hose use that to kind of "pressure wash" the bottom and sides of the vase. If that not enough use the salt and juice mixture and shake shake shake.

Rinse everything out completely.

If that doesnt work then i would say it just about has to be your hose.

ok let me get this straight.
you put hot water in the base and Dawn in the bowl to smoke? do you blow bubbles while you exhale?

myas are built like tanks...indestructible, replaceable parts, and rather hard to 'maneuver' (in an ambiguous and somewhat poetic sense in that they're very hard to kwerk and play with like egyptians...if that makes sense). the results are pretty repeatable and constant. however, this is beneficial in your case, i doubt the pipe is rusted.

final paraenesis: clean that thing well. a buddy of mine used to just toss the base and stem (once taken apart) into the dishwasher. i would also advise using a lemon juice/baking soda and salt combo (i'm not too fond of ramming chemicals down something i'm going to be heating up and inhaling through). i'd get a new hose, i'm a HUGE fan of hookahjohn's 'narbish' - best hoses i have, i bought 6 of them, gave 2 to my buddies and we no longer use our previously beloved KM hoses. they're also washable, which is a +. i'd also buy a new head, for the hell of it, an original tangiers small phunnel will do you wonders, and make that pipe do things that it's only dreamed of.

use your money wisely, pay more for two quality items that will enhance your pipe remarkably, don't spend [less] money on things that will be mediocre because you'll only end up buying a phunnel and a washable hose later, anyway.

Thanks again to everyone. I already have a phunnel bowl thanks to the friend who has quit smoking but will invest in a good hose asap. Tonight I will soak the shit out of everything. Her hookah is so much better then the POS that I got before knowing better. I'm gonna be picking up a Mya QT here soon too to take "travel" with since my friends hookah is 26 inches (I think)

I'll update after i clean it for anyone who cares.
