I Know Nothing About My Hookah..

Recommended Posts

I've been smoking hookah among friends for a few years, and I've owned a shoddy "pumpkin" style one that was $18, but I recently bought a hookah (based only off the meager information I know from smoking other people's) so I'd have a good one for myself and my roommates. It was $80 at a hookah cafe owned by one of my friends who came from Palestine, and he didn't have a huge selection so I just picked out one I liked. I would've gone somewhere else but he's a friend and I got a discount happy.gif.

All that said, I don't know a lot about the specifics of hookahs. I know some of the names of parts and whatnot, but brands are a huge mystery to me (aside from shisha...we've been smoking Rosetta recently). So I took some pictures and I was wondering if you folks could tell me some specifics about my hookah.

In the first one I took it apart as much as I can.

I am 100% sure that is a Mitsuba, I had one almost identical to that for about the same price for my first hookah, you and I both got ripped off.

Warning, be careful cleaning it and dont use hot water, this thing is practically glued together and seals will come undone with hot water...it will completely fall apart beyond repair

sorry for your loss, but at least you got a temporary hookah, mine lasted me around a year to a year and a half of constant repair after my first cleaning of it until it was in 10 pieces beyond repair

from the looks of it, its just a generic Chinese hookah.. and if that is the case 80 bucks was way 2 much for a 2hose

Well I ended up paying $50, and he threw in a free case and 350g of shisha with japanese style coals. Like I said, discount =P.

Thanks a lot for the info though, guys. It seems like it's pretty difficult to find anything legitimate in Wisconsin, but the next time I have $150 or so lying around I'm thinking of getting an AF with a vortex bowl and a razan hose. Just from reading some reviews that sounds pretty awesome.

Also...I smoke through aluminum foil with toothpick holes poked in it, and I know it adds a factor of chemical issues to smoking hookah, but every time I try a metal screen (the kind that bends around the bowl) I have been extremely disappointed. Foil just gives me the best volume of smoke by far. Are metal screens complete trash or have I just had bad luck?

Yeah, these guys are right. You're gonna want to replace that one in the near future. I suggest getting a Khalil Mamoom or an Al Fakher or a Mya. Those three are good and won't let you down. Before you buy anything ask us on here and we'll point you in the right direction.

I should add, too, that even though this isn't a quality hookah (which I suspected), I've been pretty pleased with it. Aside from how it'll evidently fall apart in the near future, it rips pretty hard and I always get a solid buzz. The only downside is it's kind of a pain to pull on, especially with someone else smoking at the same time.

P.S. thanks r1v3th3ad for the hot water tip...I'll definitely remember to use cold from now on =).

no problem
I did like the pipe, but ya, the pull on it wasnt that great
...mine is at my buddy's place in pieces, told him he cold try to re-assemble it and its his...next time I'm back home(I'm at college) I should get some pics up for you of what can eventually happen to them.

but with cold water, the seals shouldn't blow out as fast as mine did

to repair, keep in mind these two products found at Advanced Auto- Goop and JB Stick, they gave me an extra 7+months of use out of mine until I got my new one and it took its final blow

there was like three or four to the heart alone, around three for the downstem, plus the hose ports popped off eventually

I just had to lol thinking back to when I first got that and was smoking al-waha and hookah hookah, I was such a noob, I would wash my hoses and see all the black coming out...not knowing that it was rust because youre not supposed to rinse that kind of hose lol

I remember my first hookah.. I think it cost me $20 or so, and looked kinda like a MYA QT, but it was a rip-off cheap chinese aluminum pipe. All of the screw-points eventually loosened and the pipe was no longer air-tight. It was just a bunch of fancy metal stuff on the outside covering a cheap aluminum stem. This looks like the same deal. If there's an aluminum stem under that metal exterior, then it's a knock-off. The base was glass, but it was spray-painted from the INSIDE, thus it never tasted or smelt right. And I made the same mistake in washing the hose, so it rusted badly. In all, it lasted maybe 3 weeks total.

I bought another one later.. another cheap chinese one, but it was much prettier to look at. However, it had that same shitty aluminum stem under all the decorations. It lasted longer, though, due to the thicker aluminum, but still cost me $100. However, the base was really nice, almost MYA Paragon quality, and I still have it. Heavy sucker. I'd say that alone was worth $50.

=(

I have two 50g's of Al Waha downstairs and I wash the hoses out pretty frequently haha. Lame.

Normally we smoke El Hennawy but the place I buy from only has 250g boxes and the 50s of Al Waha are like $1.50...but damn I didn't think the hoses were that bad to wash. I rinsed them out because when I let them sit for a while and I pull on them I get a chalky scoob that comes out.

>_<

i'm not dissing al waha, i like it but havent had it in a year and a half, since i converted to tangiers
...but your hoses, you'll start to notice little pieces of stuff in your mouth when your smoking, thats rust...I'd stop washing now before you damage them anymore
there are a lot of washable hoses on the market if you're looking to upgrade, they run about $20

Definitely upgrade to a washable hose. If anything I know there are two posts floating around where a few members show you how you can make one for around 8 dollars. At least I think it was around that price, but either way it's a lot cheaper if you don't feel like spending the 20 bucks.

I bought a replacement hookah for the cheap chinese ripoff I got from smoking-hookah as part of a deal, after it broke, I got a new one from the guy round the corner, little family run smoke shop, $140 for the cheapest four hose I ever saw (WAY before I found out about this place, tangiers, etc) the minute I got it home, it fell apart. Every two seconds, I had to epoxy it. It finally died on a plane trip. the bag it was in got smashed inside my suitcase and the downstem ripped apart. When I got to Myrtle Beach I saw this, and ripped it apart by hand and threw it out in a fit of rage haha

I bought a 2 hose Sahara Smoke hookah from a smoke shop in myrtle beach, and contrary from what I heard here, it's actually a pretty decent pipe, it leans a little, but a little twist on the base and it straightens out, but its really airtight. My next hookah will probably be a KM or Mya, but for now this hookah is pretty legit. After so many bad experiences with bad pipes, it's hard to ever go back to one of those pipes ever again.
