Hookie The Hookah
Coco's have been causing my recent Tang sessions to be "hot," where the smoke was previously cool and smooth it's now just a littttttttttle too much. I've tried cutting them down, but it's only given me very minor (possibly no) improvement. Any suggestions? I'd been using some no-name coconut coals for the last few months and recently got back with cocos and don't really have a resource for getting other naturals... hookah hippie
I use goldencanaries for my tangiers and cocos for all other tobaccos
Stuie
Cut them in half. I have had better luck with it so far.
kdkhookah
I have the same issue. Layering the foil does help and so does cutting them. I rarely use full size cocos; some tobaccos can handle it though. I have found that exoticas work better for tangiers than cocos, they don't get nearly as hot, but I'm all out and have two big boxes of cocos to go through. Cocos and exotica are like two sides of extreme. Cocos tend to get really hot and can burn Tangiers easily, but then with exoticas you could possibly end up with three good size pieces on there before it gets going good. Hookie The Hookah
I would do double foil, but I feel like it messes with my careful packjob... I guess I could make it work....

Its not the heat its the surface temp of coco's thats too hotI've never used more than one layer of foil, and I don't have problems using Cocos with Tangiers. I've found that 2 Cocos on a medium phunnel provides a harsh smoke, but 3 makes it smoke wonderfully.
mitchard
People have told me that 3 cocos on a small phunnel works great.I lol'd.Two is usually too much heat on a small. Three is perfect on a medium. With the small, hang them over a little bit. Once they get a little smaller, two works good.

cotsi95
Tangiers can be harsh if theres not enough heat on it. I use canarys for everything, but when i used cocos i used 3 for my small and it was perfect.
vin13
3 cocos on a small phunnel is the only way to go. Some bowls I feel it can take even more heat.
Majid
From what i've noticed cocos burn less hot than most other charcoal. Keeping them as far on the outside as possible may help.
Dr. B
i use 3 on a small phunnel. I start them around the edge and if it gets too hot, i move them over the center, 1 touching another, and stack the 3rd on top. once they start to die, i replace them at the edges. ryno
You guys that are using 3 cocos on a small must have the old tall, big smalls that are bigger than the mediums now. I see no way you can have 3 cocos on there, but if it works for ya, it works. I usually try to use canaries with Tangiers if not, I split any type of coconut coal in halves and start seeing what works
SynysterPhoenix
I use 3 coco's on a small phunnel, just got it last week. Works both with lucid and OG, more so with OG. Monster clouds, great flavor, no harshness.

SynysterPhoenix
I tried it with 2 coals, works fine, but I was curious as to what would happen with 3. Tried it and have not regret that decision yet.
