A Handful Of N00b Questions?

First, a general explanation. I'm usually a pipe smoker. I accidentally purchased some Rosetta hookah tobacco from pipesandcigars.com thinking I could dry it and smoke it in my tobacco pipe.

Once I got the order, and I saw what shisha actually is, I thought about returning it, but the shipping fees and the price of the order were about equal, so it seemed a wasted effort. I decided instead to purchase a generic hookah from China for a few bucks on eBay. I figured it would be my cheapest investment into starting hookah, and it was small enough to keep out of the way in my dorm (I'm kind of cramped here)

So I have my pipe on the way. Now, I have cerebral palsy, and I'm not driving at the moment, so all my orders are online, and I've used Bic/disposable lighters for everything. What are some decent quick lights that I can get away with using a small flame? I've heard that some brands are able to be lit with a match, but I've never had the knack of lighting and then moving matches to the object I want to burn. I saw on YouTube that the guy who makes the CH instant lights got away with using a small Bic; could I do that, or even grab a long-stemmed grill lighter from Wal-Mart? It takes longer, but I could wait.

Once the coals are ashed over my foil, where can I place them safely? I was thinking of buying this incense burner to let them rest on, but if I can go a little bigger/cheaper, I will.

You'll probably tell me that for all these questions, it might've been easier to just mail the shisha back and accept my losses, but I figured this would be an interesting experience at least.

To simply, my questions are:
1) Can I use a small water pipe covered in foil instead of a larger hookah?
2) May I use my Bic to light my coals?
3) Can I store ashed/hot coals on a small incense burner to keep them safely out of my way?

Guess that's not as complicated as I seemed to think it would be. I plan to introduce myself properly tomorrow; it's late here in PA. Thanks for any help, and I apologize if this has been answered on-site; I did do a search, but I may have worded something poorly.

1. I would look into a bambino, I have never used a pipe like that but with a bowl that tiny its going to be hard to manage heat.

1)next, you bought a nice paper weight..so when you get it in the mail just find a new place on the shelve for it..lol, now depending where you wana go with this if it will be a regular thing and you will continue to buy hookah shisha then i suggests a mya qt or bambino hookah..they are the smallest hookahs without compromising performance..

2)if you buy quick lights then yes a simple lighter or match will work fine..the best ones to buy are hookah johns CH ql's now they have a name thats illegal to use on this forum so dont make the mistake of typing out the whole first name..thats why we all call them CH coals..they are the best ql's out there

3)you can, but thats what the tray is for when you buy a hookah, but see you asked that question because you bought a paper weight..hookahs come with trays for the coal so you wont have to worry about that

Thanks for all the information, I'm thinking I'll go with this one on eBay; $30 shipped, the guy's in the states, and with good feedback. If hookahs aren't for me, it's a nice decoration at least.

Size was only a factor because I thought it would be cheaper. I plan to smoke this at home, not here, since it could count as paraphernalia and get confiscated...although, technically, any smoking device could be viewed negatively but I digress

Definitely. You'll be spending a little more, but in turn you will be getting a highly rated hookah, great coals and some of the best tobacco available. That one on ebay is a cheap little smoke shop hookah. It wont last, and you probably wont be able to sell it off if you find out its not your thing.

ya stay away from those ebay hookahs just stick with the link i/we gave you and go with one of the 2 mya's the qt or the bambino both are great smokers and pick you up some of john's quick light ch coals and maybe a few flavors of shisha..some good brands are nakhla,tangiers lucid, al fakher in that order in my opinion

Very nice order, let us know when it arrives, I'll smoke a celebratory bowl that night Not that I really need the excuse... but still. Good hookah, good shisha, good coals (although I've had some trouble lighting mine, they start lighting then stop and sometimes you've gotta hold the flame to a new place to get the rest to light). Overall - very glad you came here first to look and research. I tell you I got very lucky on my first hookah order, I ended up with a no name egyptian but it smokes like a champ and I still use it even after getting other hookahs. I did however make the mistake of getting hookah hookah tobacco, which is not bad for beginners but I was reading about these epic multi-hour sessions and thought I was a screwup. Ok, enough rambling (I'm putting off a homework assignment). Enjoy and let us know when it comes in!
