Narbish Repair Guide

Recommended Posts

I decided to make a Narbish repair guide for any V1 Narbish owners that are having problems with leaks.

Step 1: Take your narbish completely apart. Remove ALL glue from it, including any glue hiding inside the handles. Do NOT remove the gasket from inside the handle where the mouthpiece fits, or the gasket on the hose-port clear acrylic end. I did this and managed to damage it, and so now I have to use a bowl gromit as a replacement.

Step 2: Tape the ends of the hose so they don't unravel. It would be a pain in the ass if this sucker unraveled.

[attachment=4266:Picture_002.jpg]

Step 3: Put those gaskets from the handle and port-end onto the ends of the hose like so.

[attachment=4267:Picture_003.jpg]

Step 4: Put these gasket ends of the hose into the handles.

[attachment=4268:Picture_004.jpg]

Step 5: Take all that lovely rubber wrap stuff you got, and cut four 3-4 foot lengths. Tightly wrap one length around each of the previous handle ends you were working with in step 4. Make sure to wrap tape around them when you're finished so they don't unravel. Any tape will be fine. Overlap A LOT. It's the key to making an air-tight and water-tight seal.

[attachment=4269:Picture_005.jpg]

Step 6: Put your acrylic mouth piece and hose-port ends into the other ends of the handles.

[attachment=4270:Picture_006.jpg]

Step 7: Wrap them the same way you just wrapped the other ends of the handles. Remember to keep it tight!

[attachment=4271:Picture_007.jpg]

Step 8: Take the rope, and making sure that you're working with the long rope for the handle and the short rope for the hose-port end, cut the frayed ends off, and tape the double-roped end to the hose-end of the handle. Then wrap the rope up along the handle. Time and patience is a virtue here. Tightly wrap it up. You'll have to figure out a technique here that works best for you. Half-way through when you run out of that sparkly rope, cut the frayed end of it off, and tape the end to the handle, then wrap the rest of the other rope up around it to cover and hide it.

[attachment=4272:Picture_008.jpg]

Step 9: At the end, tie the rope around itself.

Guide continued...

Step 10: Wrap tape around the rope to hold it in place.

Step 11: Cover it with the little tassle so nobody knows what ya did. wink.gif

Repeat for the other end of the hose with the other rope and tassle.

Step 12: Enjoy your repaired hose! biggrin.gif

Voila! Hose is complete. Now go smoke a bowl!

Great writeup! I do have some comments/suggestions from my experience with rebuilding Razans and Narbishes:

I would recommend using a permanent silicon glue (still slightly flexible) or if you prefer a harder glue, epoxy or gorilla glue, instead of wrapping and tape as it will be a more permanent fix and you can still make the tips removable that way.

The gaskets are also hot glued into the plastic handle and another place that should be reinforced. Running hot water through the handle will loosen up the glue and make it pliable so removing it is easier without damaging the gaskets.

NOPE! mine is just put together with tape and a few peices of black/red fabric, this is probably why it was leaking and just unraveled itself. this kinda sucks...

here ive attached a picture showing you everything i have after i dissembled my hose.

Oh. Yeah, that could be why it leaked. Mine leaked only where there was no rubber wrap.

I think you might be able to find it at a hardware store. Maybe. In the plumbing section, perhaps? I dunno. Mine was on the hose itself.

From experience in rebuilding things of this type glue in the hose to the handles. And just glue in the gaskets for the tips because it is easier to deep clean these things if the tips are removable.

No, I strongly recommend wrapping the hose-port tip with the rubberwrap. The reason it leaks is because they DIDN'T wrap it in the first place, and only used glue, and thus it leaked. If you want the mouthtip removeable, then just skip wrapping the mouthtip. It's really not needed, but I never remove my mouthtips. I don't understand why anyone would.

Hey JD,

Is there anyway I could redo my hose but shorten or leave off the long-ass hose port end of the hose? I don't like how long it is and want to just shorten it up or somehow leave it off altogether. Think this is possible?

How long did you spend in total to repair your hose?

About an hour. It depends on your wrapping technique.

I am Glad hookah john is deciding case by case to send out new ones to those (me) who bought a crap model..because, you should not have to spend an hour of your time fixing a product which you paid good money for.

I may do this when I have shit to do on a saturday, and for now I just re-glued everything and wrapped half of both handle ends in elec. tape (ugly). Still leaks.

Cudos, thx for the thread.

Yep. Just take that part out, and instead place the gasket end of the hose-port acrylic piece into the hose itself, then wrap that with the rubber wrap stuff extra tight, and tape it up. Then all you need is the tassle on there to cover up the rubber wrap, unless you wanna be fancy and try wrapping the hose with the rope.

Electric tape might work to replace the rubber wrap, but you should look for a rubber kind of tape. Plumber's tape might work, but I highly doubt it. The stuff is too thin. You'd have to wrap a shitload of it on there.

Also, I think duct tape will work too, but for it to be pliable, you need to take a 3-5 foot length and split it down the middle length-wise so it's easier to wrap tightly around the joints. Overlap it a lot too, and it should do the trick. Maybe wrap it with other tape to hold it in place, 'cause I know duct tape likes to unwrap itself sometimes.

Aight, thanks man. Gonna give this a whirl when I rebuild mine when I have time.
