frost91
Well one of my buddies from boston brought his hookah over to my house the other day. Knowing that he was coming, i recently purchased tangiers 3 pack of tropical punch, orange soda and schnozberry. Well after acclimating, it smelt like hawaiin punch so when he came down, we smoked it. I packed it the way eric packs his phunnel and started smoking. Clouds were there, buzz wasnt, unfortunately. But after pull after pull, the taste was mild, and there was a strong tone of tobbaco for the after taste. It ruined the session and we ended after 15 minutes. Plus, my pregnant wife was bitching. Just wondering, does tangiers have a slight after taste, or have i not acclimated it enough? Thank you.
newjacksm
I have been getting this too, I dont know what it is. My first couple bowls were fine after acclimating it and then that batch I got pretty heavy tobacco taste after wards. Yes I did let it air out before I smoked it. But it wasn't like my first session so I know something went wrong. So yeah I know where your coming from, and this is the main problem I have been having. cotsi95
More then likely you didnt have enough heat on it. What size bowl, foil, hole pattern, etc. did you use also what temp was the water in your base?
r1v3th3ad
might be a bad batch, out of all the times I had tangiers, only once it was bad which was f-line rootbeer...I've never had it tasting like tobacco.did you stir the batch before packing it, to get the molasses coating it all, because the molasses normally sift to the bottom of the container
frost91
3 ch hookah instant lights. about 30 holes, using tooth pick poking straight through. warm water base. JDHarding
This almost sounds like too much heat on a non-airtight pipe. 3 coals should be more than enough, heat-wise. But if the taste is mild, there could be a leak. Big clouds or teeny wimpy clouds? Bad aftertaste is also part of this. Too much heat, you burn the shisha a tobacco flavor comes out of it, and in a non-airtight pipe or hose it'll be a weak flavor with a nasty burnt aftertaste. Also, quicklights can cause a nasty aftertaste too if they're not fully heated. RED HOT all the way through, not just the surface.

Put 2 coals on after, the taste still remained. Still dont know what it is. All i knwo is we got huge clouds. decent flavor. Horrible after taste. I never liked orange much, but it should taste like actual orange soda. And it should be a pretty strong taste too. As for aftertaste, it should only leave an orange soda aftertaste. When I got mine, it didn't need any acclimation. Washington is usually fairly cold most of the year.It could be your packing technique.. maybe.. just remember to mix it up well, pick it up with your fingers, pile it up in the bowl, and pack it down under the rim with a fork. Tight foil overtop. 3 rings of holes poked straight to the bottom of the bowl. 2 or 3 coals on top. Should be good.
newjacksm
yeah my shisha smells amazing, I am using CH Nat coals and Exoticas, both give me this tobacco after taste. I think it may be more of a packing issue then anything. But I dont know it's just an assumption.I use 2 CH coals and regular foil, I also use a small funnel bowl. gtm2007
I smoked some Tangiers Lucid Mimon the other night and got a weird tobacco aftertaste too. I was using two CH naturals on a Vortex 30g bowl, and at the time the seals weren't airtight, but I was still getting good clouds and a strong buzz. I was smoking with a bunch of hard core cigarette smokers, so they were loving it, but I couldn't handle the taste and after awhile started passing the hose every time. Probably burning the bowl, by my guestimate, but thought I'd throw in that I got that aftertaste.

Hookie The Hookah
This happens to me without proper heat management. Too much coal to foil contact. Try moving the coals away from the center and letting them hang off slightly. This happened to me for the first time about two months ago and I'm now able to make this happen whenever I put too much heat directly over top the tobacco. cypherkk
I had this problem the first time I ordered Tangiers over a year ago. Now I don't. I really have focused on the directions for packing it and it comes out great, the only exception so far orange cream, which was just orange. First, stop the quicklites. I have found they just don't work well with tangiers. (personal experience) get some good finger coals.put the heat on the very edges of the bowl. I'd start with two coals, if you aren't getting good smoke , move the coals toward the center till you're getting good smoke. This is just more or less instructions on learning the right placement for later bowls. Are you using a phunnel? I don't know about anyone else, but tangiers smokes best for me when I use a phunnel.Did you follow the packing and hole pattern from the videos completely... Tangiers wants lots of holes, double any other brand. personal notes: Tangiers standard line will have a little "bite" or tingle in the throat for people who don't smoke daily. Its like a sports car, temperamental and needs constant maintenance, but if you learn to do it right, its the absolute best. Compared to "easy" brands like starbuzz, which is like a toyota that you could heat with a blow torch packed however you want but you'll only go so far with those.. I recommend starting with lucid or mixing a lucid flavor with a noir flavor till you get the trick down.

I dont get this with any other brandsTangiers can be pretty finicky..I do ok with Utah weather (very dry, level humidity most of the time), but have had the opposite of flavor getting better after a second round of coals...and the other way with flavor losing value after 20 min.Smoke something different, I've mixed OG with lucid with decent results, but the OG if it gets finicky will hurt the session anyway.Side note: preg girls shouldn't smoke shisha either... :/
foibled again
I've smoked all three of those flavors in Noir using CH QLs and didn't have after taste issues either. I can't comment much on acclimation issues because I don't experience them but if they smell good, they should smoke good too. Tropical Punch does smell kinda like Hawaiian Punch. It sounds like to me you are underpacking and compensating by using more heat. If you ended up burning the tobacco too much, it's very hard to get it smoking well again without that taste lingering. On a small phunnel, I use 3 CH Qls spaced evenly and partially on the edge of the bowl. Once the bowl is up to temperature, I shift/rotate/flip the coals and usually leave it like that until it's time for another coal. If it happens to you again, take off the coals, add some more tobacco to the bowl, and reapply heat in a slower manner. That might help you figure out what the problem is. frost91
lmao ahahhaha that was a good one. But, i finally had a good session of tangiers yesterday woooohooo. It was orange soda. DAMN THIS STUFF KICKS U IN THE ASS. i smoke cigaretttes and get a buzz from orange soda. At first, it seemed as if it was going to be horrible. I had a car session with my friend because again, my wife is pregnant. Used a phunnel with a qt. Smoke was amazing. Taste was pretty good. no baccy taste. I noticed WEN YOU START THE BOWL, IF YOU HAVE TOO LITTLE HEAT, IT WILL GIVE U A TINGLY FEELING. After putting 3 of johns qls, it smoked perfectly. On a side note. Johns quicklights will prevent you from getting laid. After going back into the house my wife told me my hair smelt like "burnt asshole". Ouch! Chiefin
Also, try and not poke holes all the way through to the bottom of the bowl. Just puncture the foil. The last thing you want for tangiers is pockets of air throughout your bowl. That may have been why you got that.
