Oh, and the gov't wants to license, register, fingerprint, and track every owner of a handgun or any SA weapon... after they evaluate your physical, and mental status.

Ya, who was the fool that tried to say the dumbocaraps haven't taken away any freedoms? Some gone, more in the sights... as they are.

Scotty...I'm surprised you've been allowed to troll as long as you have... why does everything have to be political with you? Can't you, for once, contribute to a hookah related thread, or help someone out in the chat perhaps?

If a guy breaks into your house, most likely he has been scoping it and you are also not home, because he knows more about you than your wife does. He will most likely not be armed, unless he knows you are armed. If the dud decides to be an ass and hold you and your family hostage, he will either get you first while you are sleeping (how will you get your pistol and defend yourself then?) or get your wife or kid. If he's going fro your kid you won't eve know til it's too late. You can hunt him down, but what's the point.

There are stupid burglars, and these tend to be kids no older than 19 and in a bad crowd, are you really gonna put a bullet through a kid because he's trying to steal your TV?

And are you starving? Do you need to hunt to stay alive? Nope. Is it fun to kill animals who have no chance? Well obviously to some. But if you need to hunt shit, then all you need is a bow and arrow, a crossbow, or a rifle/shotgun, period. No one needs an assault rifle to take out a bear. If you do, you are a pussy.

Why do you need more bullets anyway? If you are hoarding bullets I'd be worried about you as well. I would definitely want tabs kept on you.

Most of you must not have read the article about fishing, and overfishing. We are literally running out of fish. We are actually so far out of fish, they are renaming animals that were never before thought to be consumable by humans because of the way they look; i.e, the patagonian toothfish and the orange roughy - have you seen what these 2 motherfuckers look like? You really enjoy eating that shit?

Fish is full of mercury anyway. Obama or whoever could just tell you through the media that all fish is contaminated with mercury and you would never dream of eating it.

If this is about taking away freedoms... well welcome to America. If they can tap my phones they can take your guns.

There's some truth here. Statistically, houses that get robbed when a gun is in the house more than triples your chances of getting shot. Most burglers will case out your house, and wait for you to NOT be around. You'll never get the chance to stop them. If it's more on the lines of a home invasion, you're probably screwed anyways. They'll come at night, and take care of the job while you're sleeping. Getting a dog is much more effective than getting a gun.

Now the only true benefit of having guns be legal, is the original purpose of having the populace armed, in case the government needs to be overthrown. This is the only reason I support gun ownership, because there needs to be a backup plan if the government goes bad. If this would never be a problem, then I'd be all for banning guns outright, as there is no good from them. Edited by Barnaby

You watch too much TV Scotsman...... Never going to happen. The single most powerful lobby in the country is the NRA. And whether you consider them lunatics or not there is one thing they do very well. Protect gun ownership in this country. They focus on that one issue to the exclusions of all else and while a number of them are a bunch of red-neck, incestuous trailer park hillbilly nutjobs otherwise, they focus on keeping those rights and they show up in every single election threatening them to vote and vote and vote. Anyone in the legislature who tries to vote this kind of stuff into law won't have a job next election and they know it. It's a throwaway to the overly liberal who think all firearms should be banned and it's not going anywhere.

Erm... What about the AARP? They're a bigger lobby than the NRA aren't they? Perhaps they're on par? Not that it matters, because this isn't about senior's rights....nevermind...

I said most powerful - not bigger......I suspect AARP may have more members but they aren't nearly so focused and intent on a single issue. For that, nobody beats the NRA.

By the way, the biggest deterent to being a victim isn't a gun, or security system or even guards at your gate should you be famous enough to think you need them. Ask any security expert in the world. The biggest deterent is a dog with a big mouth and a willingness to use it.

Either the culprit would be too scared to face a dog, the gunshot would make noise, or the dogs barking in the first place would be an alarm.

As far as the hunting goes, your right you don't need an assault rifle, which are illegal anyway. I talking about fully automatic, military weapons. I've known many people who go hog/deer hunting with completely legal, semi-automatic AR-15s. I own a WASR-1 (a legal Romanian AK-47 clone) myself and enjoy shooting it.

As far as having a lot of ammo in your possession, if your a paranoid anti government nutjob, yes I can see that being cause for alarm. But there are some people out there who simply enjoy target shooting, myself included. At least where I live its very much a social activity. At one point I had 1000+ rounds of 7.2x39 and its pretty much the norm for me to have more 100 shotguns shells and I also reload my own ammo.

Personally I think that trying to ban guns or put restrictions on ammo would only cause problems. Afterall if they become illegal, law abiding citizens would give up their guns but criminals would still have theirs.

Prohibition of alcohol led to higher crime and drinking rates in the 1920s. Dry counties here in Texas have a higher DWI rate than a wet county.

I'm all for gun rights, but I don't mind vendors checking at least mental history for people purchasing a firearm. As for having a semi-auto assault rifle, I'm for that as well. I don't see a problem with someone hunting big game with a .308 or any other higher caliber because I'd rather live than have a chance of being mauled. The people I know that "stock pile" ammo do it because of the rising ammo costs, and they only use it for target shooting, and occasionally hunting.

As for fishing, I catch and release. People that don't follow state and local laws on catch/weight limits deserve to be caught by the game wardens. How will we be able to fish if all the fish are gone? It's fun to fish, but that's my opinion.

well if i was going to carry a gun into a robbery it would be because i plan on shooting someone if they confronted me. and if i hand no problem shooting a person why would i have a problem shooting a dog?

You're missing the point. Most dogs raise hell the moment someone they don't know comes onto the prooerty, waking/alerting their owner and usually stopping the intruder from going further. Not necessarily because they're afraid of the dog or afraid of hurting it, but the house is no longer an easy mark because of the noise and they move on to one that's easier to hit.

True that.. Unless you are bent on killing everyone in the house, you will avoid the obvious deterrent of the dog. Why bother getting bite, or have a blood bath, when you are just trying to make some money. You go for the easy target..
