LIQUIDGSR
Does the MYA QTs ball bearing holder come part. I wanted to change out the ball bearing out, but I can't seem to get the top off.

Genie
Be careful using a tool to unscrew it or you could scratch it, which may not bother you. I'd use something like a rubber grip--the kind they make to open jars.
LIQUIDGSR
yeah I tried the rubber grip but it was super tight. So i got a vice grip and a channel lock and wrapped it around a T shirt and it came off without scratching it. Put one of those plastic ones I got from Genie in there...so ill try that out whenever I get the chance to smoke again. Surprisingly the ball inside was pretty clean. Any ideas on what to use to get the old smoked nasty tobacco lingering smell out from the stem?

You can use dish soap, just rinse it out really well.
Arcane
i know what you're talking about. the purge cap gets "stuck" on the purge valve. so, when you try to unscrew the cap...the whole thing comes off.i got it off with pliers, kinda like you did....but, it keeps getting stuck so i just said "fuck it". its not like a QT purges all that great anyways... LIQUIDGSR
i used lemon juice, water, and dish soap on the base and let it sit for a day and I will clean it out tomorrow. That thing smelled bad as well.

I get it at the grocery store or Walmart. It's natural and leaves everything fresh, clean, and shiny.Do you have a stem brush? That makes a big difference. gtm2007
Hot water doesn't work too well for removing the taste and/or smell. I've observed that stuff that's adhered to the inside of my stem such as tar, etc. gets eaten by a lemon juice/baking soda/warm water mixture. I would remove purge valve cap, ball bearing, hose, and all grommets and pour a little of said mixture in with one end plugged, and swish it around a few times. The solution will make bubbles as it eats the stuff. When there's no more bubbles, wash the stem with warm water and let dry. Brushes help too.A few things I've noticed on the purge valve - try a plastic airsoft BB in there. I replaced the ball bearing in my AF small solid with an airsoft BB and the thing purges like a charm now. Also, everything metal on the hookah should only be hand tight. Overtightening is a great way to ruin threads.
Genie
Try Lemeshine, honestly, it's made of crystals that would do a good job of scrubbing the inside of the parts for you--but you really need a brush. If you don't have a brush, there are tutorials on Youtube on how to make your own hookah brush. Moisten the brush and cover it with the Lemishine and scrub the downstem with it.When I have a pot or pan that has junk on it that I just can't get off, I soak it in a bit of water with powdered dish washer detergent in it. It's got heavy duty enzymes and other chemicals that nearly always get the gunk off without damaging the glass or metal. If you're trying the lemon juice and baking soda, don't dilute it with water. If you need to kick up the cleaning power a notch, use vinegar and baking soda. Your bowl may be the problem. Soaking it water that has reached a boil, remove it from the heat first, may take care of that problem for you.Your hose may be the problem as well, have you tried a different hose? EggNogAdam
hahahahaha. This reminds me of the 3rd time I ever smoked out of my hookah. After the second time I smoked I (stupidly) cleaned the bowl and hose with alcohol. The next day when I went to start a new bowl of AF Apple what I got was a nose and lung full of alcohol smell that took nearly an hour to go away.I have been using the hookah now for 3 months and haven't cleaned it again.I HAVE managed to lose 5 purge valve balls though. I'm gonna go get some airsofts here in a bit.-EggNogAdam-
Chreees
Wow, so I was told you can't replace the QT's purge bearing with an airsoft BB... I was actually told by people ON this thread...Oh well. Mine purges well anyway. But I'd like to see how you guys are doing it, because mine seems to not come apart at all. LIQUIDGSR
I replaced mine with a airsoft bullet and it works great. Got a few from Genie. It works better than the metal ball bearing because I noticed that the metal one gets stuck. It got stuck last night and the water went up into the bowl when I tried to purge. On a side note I think I need a new hose because there is stuff coming up, either from my bowl or from the hose and I don't clean it beacuse it has a metal coil on the inside. GRR. Chreees
Well could you post pics of how you opened yours and replaced the bearing? If I can open mine up, I'll hit up Genie for a BB. Mine doesn't get stuck now, but I know it probably will soon. Did on my old one. Haha, yeah, I've purged hella hard on accident once on my old QT I had before and water shot up and put my coals out. LIQUIDGSR
I just wrapped the purch valve part in a t shirt. Then took a channel lock and vice grips and twisted the top portion off of the bottom.
VorFan
Yes, the ball bearing holder comes off, but no, there isnt a screw holding it in place, thats a hose port, not a ball bearing holder.I dont believe you can change it out.

Works infinitely better than the clay ball the KM came with or the steel ball the Bambino came with. I've never had my Bambino purge valve cover stick, but I've heard of other people having to go through rather a lot of work to get their Mya purge valves apart. I'd cover it with a piece of rubber (like those bits of rubber you use to open jars and things) and use a Robogrip or some pliars to get it off. Might have to drip some WD-40 around the threads there to loosen it up, sure will be a pain to clean that out afterwards but..... we do what we gotta do, eh? They're too small for the autoseal adapters however.
Chreees
Well, I just find it kinda funny that back in August when I had my first QT everyone on here (I know names, but I'm not gonna get into that) told me that there's no way to open up the QT's purge valve to replace the ball bearing... Now all of a sudden this thread pops up and I see that it is possible... I would like pics, because my purge valve doesn't look like it'll come apart. Looks like one solid piece.
