Myq Qt Ball Bearing Holder Come Off?

I would like pics, because my purge valve doesn't look like it'll come apart. Looks like one solid piece.

There's tons of pix of Mya Bambinos online, it's pretty easy to search it. No close ups, I don't think, but you can see the purge well enough.

The hose port comes off too, for that matter, but not easily. And I don't care to remove it. I've had to tighten it a couple of times though. I notice it has plumbers tape on it, or something white at any rate. It's a pain in the butt to tighten it. The photos I've seen of the QT show it to have a purge valve that looks pretty similar to the Bambino, the part that screws off looks a little fatter. It's just the tip that unscrews, not the stem of the purge valve.

Are you guys talking about it coming unscrewed from the stem or what? Cause just taking it off of the stem doesn't allow you to get the ball bearing out... I'm wanting to actually open mine up to change the bearing for when it starts giving me problems.

Yes, when you unscrew it from the stem the ball bearing is exposed. Slips right out. The ball bearing isn't down in the stem. It rests on the stem. The holes for the purge are in the cap. If you turn it upside down (minus the vase and a the bowl etc. etc.) you'll hear the ball bearing hit the top of the cap. You can shake it around in there. Unless the ball bearing is corroded and stuck. You probably can't get the cap off because it's corroded, crossthreaded, or was simply put on too tightly wherever it was put together. It unscrews like the lid off a peanut butter jar, lefty loosey, dude. I just took some pix, I'll upload them in a minute. Edited by Genie

Remember, this is a Bambino, not a QT, but it's still a Mya and the purge valves are very similar if not exactly alike--wouldn't know since I don't have my own QT (yet).

That white ball is one of the plastic bb's, a stainless steel ball bearing used to sit there.

Got it off! Didn't have any tape but duct tape, and it ripped through a made a tiny scratch on the stem part of the purge valve. No biggie. Can barely tell. Now I'll feel like I'm cleaning it better each time. Genie, how much you charging for bb's?

Yup, LIQUIDGSR remembers more or less correctly. Just PM me about it. SHE charges a dollar. It's .64 just to mail them because they're bulky, whether it's one or half a dozen. So I'm asking a whole dollar for six and making a whopping .34 cents. If I sell six bb's to around 20 people I'll have paid for the 2,000 I bought and the buyers will have a few extra bb's to share w/their hookah buddies. The bb's just aren't expensive. In fact, you might just ask friends or neighbors, you may know someone with one of those kinds of bb guns that will lay some bb's on you. Or hit me up, whatever. I found my first one lying in the yard one day. I was so happy! But finally broke down and bought some a month or so later.

Why'd you use tape? Not that it matters, glad you got the blasted thing off! I need to go clean my hookah after tonight's session but smoking made me so groggy tonight I think I'm just going to have to go to bed and clean it in the morning. Hate doing that. Guess I could at least disassemble it. Edited by Genie

yeah I tried the rubber grip but it was super tight. So i got a vice grip and a channel lock and wrapped it around a T shirt and it came off without scratching it. Put one of those plastic ones I got from Genie in there...so ill try that out whenever I get the chance to smoke again. Surprisingly the ball inside was pretty clean. Any ideas on what to use to get the old smoked nasty tobacco lingering smell out from the stem?

I have a qt and it ghost pretty bad at the bell part. The best thing I've ever done to get rid of this was beer. It works wonders for me. I use leftover beer or w/e. But if I don't have any I use lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda. I take the whole thing apart and clean it then dry it with paper towels. I use a small brush for it also. They are pretty easy to clean. Although, I find bigger hookahs easier.

I used tape to try to not scratch the finish, but duct tape was all I had and the pliers ended up ripping right through the tape anyway on just one little spot. I would've used electrical tape, but was out. Either way, it came loose and I unscrewed it the rest of the way. I'll PM you about the bb's. Thanks.

I still use the metal one. Works fine for me.

Yeah, I'm gonna get some bb's from Genie even though my metal one works fine now, and compare both of them, see what I like better. For a buck, I have nothing to lose...

Plus I hear so many people's end up getting stuck, so I might as well get some bb's now just in case that ever DOES happen.

sorry Genie didn't mean to call you a he. Never looked at the name on the postage.

It's easy to assume that everyone here is a dude, I do it too until I find out otherwise. No sweat, no offense. But I'm always quick to point out that I'm a GIRL when it comes up. Proud to be one of the few hookah girls on HF. That's what hubby calls me every time he comes home to find the house full of hookah smoke and jasmine scent. "Hey, hookah girl, whatcha watchin'/doin'/cookin'?"

Yeah I take everything apart to clean my QT... Downstem, hose port, purge valve and ball bearing, and the part the bowl sits on.

Makes it very easy

Well, I guess now it's like a KM's purge valve! Just remove the cap and the ball comes out, lol.

How many of you never take off the purge or the hose port when cleaning? What about the downstem and the top screw-on bowl piece? My theory is the more you remove these things, the faster the threading will wear out. I always unscrew everything after every sesh and clean everything thoroughly with hot water, but I'm considering just not unscrewing everything... Opinions?

with the QT since its small, I can leave the hose adapter and purge valve and even the downstem and itll clean up nicely... I just take it apart through habit

One thing I don't like: It has become a bitch to unscrew the entire purge valve. It ends up unscrewing at the cap, leaving the little stem still screwed into the stem, if that makes any sense.

Why in the world do you feel the need to remove the stem of the purge valve? I can't imagine why anyone would want to remove anything but the cap of the purge valve. A good rinse is all the stem needs, a small pipe cleaner if you're dead set on scrubbing it out. I use a toothbrush to scrub the bit where the ball bearing sits and to scrub the threads as well as to clean the ball bearing (bb in my case) and the inside cap of the purge valve. Beyond that, what does the rest matter? I really don't think the designers intended for the valve stem to be regularly removed or it would just screw on and off. Since you aren't drawing air in through the purge valve, it's unlikely to ever taint a session no matter how dirty it gets. It's an exit only, if you will.
