I always unscrew everything after every sesh and clean everything thoroughly with hot water, but I'm considering just not unscrewing everything... Opinions?

With my Mya Bambino, I always separate the downstem from the upper piece that the bowl sits on and wash them and the upper gasket (the bottom gasket seems quite happy and snug inside the lip around the upper tip of the downstem so I leave it alone) and let them all dry separately. While I don't think you HAVE to do it this way, doing it occasionally at least gives you the opportunity to make sure the gaskets are still in one piece. The downstem pieces are solid enough that I've not worried about messing up the threads. Plus, if you've got both grommets for the downstem (many people lose the top one) there's no need to screw it on really tight. Just snug, so taking it apart again isn't a trial. I've never ever attempted to remove the hose port (I've tightened it up, but have never taken it off) and I've never and would never remove the stem for the purge. I just remove the cap. I don't put any of it back together unless it's completely dry.

I use hot water on all the metal and plastic parts. But I never use hot water to wash the vase, I've heard too many horror stories about that cheap glass shattering with hot water in it and have shattered glass (vases, glasses, candy dishes) with hot water in the past so I know it's a possibility when the glass is cheap or has been dropped a few times and has weaknesses not visible to the eye. I only use tepid water to clean the vase.

I know when I first started out I was more worried about it than I am now, keeping my hookahs squeaky clean that is. But there have been occasions where I've left them sitting out overnight after a session and every time it happens I just know I'm going to find rust on them somewhere the next day. But neither my KM nor my Mya have ever shown any sign of rust or corrosion. Usually, if I really am too tired to wash them up like I should, I will disassemble everything and set them where they can at least dry out. Then I apologize to them profusely the next day and give them a good once over. I did discover that it's easier to clean the bowl the next day if I leave the foil on it overnight. Seems the condensation that forms while it cools keep everything moist and the baked shisha comes off much easier than when the bowl is hot or even after it's been sitting there for awhile cooling. That's turned out to be a handy discovery as washing a smoking hot shisha bowl is a pain! Edited November 16, 2009 by Genie
