Advice On "dream" Hookah Purchase

Recommended Posts

I've lurked here for quite a while, and now I need some advice, so I'm finally posting. I appreciate all of the great opinions and reviews that have been posted here, and though I know how to search, I wanted some more specific advice from the experts.

I've lived in NYC amongst many hookah bars for 7 years, and have a rotating orb-type single hose (from H-S, as I remember) that has served me very well for the past 3 years or so. I live in Boston now, so most of my partaking is done at home. I'm looking for my next purchase, and am less concerned about price than quality.

Here is more specifically what I'm looking for:
36" or so
2 Hose
Interesting design
No ice chamber is preferred
Great billowing clouds of smoke (of course)

Myas aren't generally my favorite, but I haven't used any of them extensively, so I'd consider one (the Obelisk design is pretty striking). I'm leaning toward a KM, but I'm open to pretty much anything else, too. Money isn't exactly "no object", but $200 won't break the bank - or a bit more if there's a compelling reason.

So, what would you get?

Thanks for the quick responses.

That KM that Zinite recommended is certainly unique, but it's a bit, um, gold for my taste.

I'm not completely sold on the two hose, but I think it's nice to have for entertaining. My friends are hose-hogs.

The Mya Staff is pretty nice. I'll add that to my short list. I'm a bit concerned about loading it with ice through the narrow base opening, though. The Colossus is certainly striking, but the many shaft parts seem a bit fiddly to me. I'll read a couple more reviews on those.

Maybe I'm too picky, but why shouldn't I be?

Keep 'em coming.

if money were no object? i'd fly to egpyt....hit up the KM store and buy the best hookah i could find..

if that's not practical, then i'd go to Dearborn, MI instead....hahaha....

and in sensible practicality, i'd try to find the 2-hose version of this: http://www.hookahjohn.com/product.sc?produ...mp;categoryId=8

or a 2-hose KM Signature Ice...

but, i would really rather recommend you get a 1-hose...

Yeah, I was all about two-hoses... When I switched to one-hose, it opened up so many possibilities, believe it or not.

I would've suggested a two-hose KM like Arcane above me, but too much damn money... Well, the OP did say "if money were no object..."

If you've got the money, get a two-hose KM or Obelisk. If you can settle for a one-hose, get this:

Cheapest KM Tri you'll find on the web right now. Can't beat this at $92 using the hookahforum discount code.

Wow, guys, great responses. I really appreciate it. I was a little afraid I was going to get the "go and do some damn research" responses, which, while possibly justified, weren't what I was hoping for.

As I said in the first post, I find the Obelisk intriguing. I'm sort of happy to have it recommended by several of you, and Stuie chiming in for it clearly carries some weight. I just have to say -- I get that any hookah is somewhat phallic, and obelisks are extremely phallic, but did they have to go and paint a cock-and-balls on the base? (Am I the only one who sees this? Am I the one with the problem?) I just don't know how I can have one and not notice it every time I use it.

Anyway, penises notwithstanding, I guess I'm leaning in that direction. I know that quite a few of you push the single hose over 2+ hose models, and I understand why, but this purchase is going to be for the show as much as the smoke (though that still has to be excellent). Believe it or not, my little rotator is actually a great single hose, after shoring up all of the leaks, anyway. What I want is a quality one out of the box, and I can always turn it into a single later, if the mood strikes.

Also - Arcane, I never knew Dearborn was a hookah hotbed until your post caused me to go and do some research. I was in Detroit earlier this year -- had I only known then...At least I've learned something now.

Again, I'm not completely married to the idea of a two-hose (I'll have two hookahs, after all), so I guess the only questions left are, 1) Is the 2 hose Obelisk really worth 2x(or more) the price of a KM Tri?, and 2) If I get an Obelisk, what color should it be (my current hookah is blue, so that one's out)?

isn't a one hose, but OG trimetal is the best hookah i own, and the best, hands down, that i've ever smoked out of.

IMO, out of all of the myas that i've smoked out of, all of them are essentially the same just some are more done up, aesthetically speaking, than others...
