Is There Such A Thing As Too Much Cleaning?

Recommended Posts

I'm OCD and a major neat freak. I've been using a diluted lemon juice/baking soda/warm water solution to clean my hookah, and I've been cleaning it religiously after every session. Hose, stem, base, everything. Is there a point at which I'm cleaning too much and might ruin my equipment? Let me know! Thanks huh.gif

I rinse my with water only after every use. I think what gets the hookah the most dirty is when you don't break it down after each use.

Cleaning is good, especially when changing flavour, I just rinse the stem with hot and then cold water to keep it cool. Every now and again ill whip out the brush and clean it with washing up liquid.

But I have to say, if you are smoking something like double apple, not changing the water or cleaning it really can enhance the flavour. It is really the hose that retains the flavour (except washable hoses) and having a hose for a particular flavour is awesome.

you can never over clean, especially after each use..especially a strong minty flavor..after each use i clean everything..only takes a few minutes and believe it or not something simple has cleaning is considered a investment to your hookah..because it will last longer and it wont take on any nasty flavors or ghosting..

The main reason I ask is because I've heard reports on here of narbish breakdowns, etc. I mean, it's nothing a new hot glue job can't fix, but I worry about wearing out the hose too fast. But I'm glad to hear that I can clean the hell out of the other stuff. I really like looking down the stem and seeing nice shiny metal all the way around.

The hose may suffer from too much cleaning. I only use cleaning solution in it every third session--but I rinse the washable ones out after every session. But as long as you're rinsing the metal parts well and letting them dry thoroughly (except in those cases where you are smoking out of it before it's had time to dry completely), they should be just fine. Just rinse everything out with warm water after every session, and clean it with baking soda and lemon juice every third session. Hell, you could do the baking sode/lemon juice cleaning once a month if you wanted to. It's all just personal preference.

Not sure I usually just rinse good with water and use cleaning brushes...

I think a hookah smokes best when its "seasoned" alittle like a good ol brier pipe.

Yeah, try seasoning it a little with coffee, earl gray, tobacco flavor.. something neutral.. let it ghost a little, and it'll make everything else that much better. Vanilla would work pretty well too. Get your hose to ghost one of those flavors. Earl Gray might be a bit much, though. That stuff ghosts strong.
