JDHarding
I figured I should start a topic here about cigars, since that "John's Cigars" topic isn't even about John's cigars anymore. *lol*Anyway, I finally got my hygrometers for my little humidor. They're 2% off from each other. One says 65%, the other says 63%. I had to spray the humidity beads with more water 'cause the humidity was only at 60% for a whole day.The cigars seem to be taking to their new home nicely. The Dannemann Moods cigarillos have REALLY taken a liking to it. They smoke sooooo nicely, and are fruity and sweet, and burn slower now that they're a little wet and out of those dry cardboard boxes. I've tried a couple cigars, and they too taste pretty good, though the ones I got aren't real great.Anyway, talk amongst yourselves about your stogie adventures. You really need to do it so that you have an idea of how far your hygrometers are off. Rarely are they anywhere close to accurate, unless you bought a $50 one. Do the salt test, wait 24 hours, sharpie the back of the hygrometers with a number like +8% so you remember how much you need to add/subtract from it to get the actual humidity. Digital hygrometers are extremely inaccurate unless you put out some serious money.

Sonthert
Me personally, I just smoke them dry, without humidification. I used to use a humidor. I believe the British traditionally smoked dried cigars while the Germans embraced the humidor. Or the other way 'round. Also, you guys do know that tobacco beetles hatch when the relative humidity gets around 71%, right? I saw in an article that cigars should be kept between 65-75% and was like "WTF?". Its usually a problem with younger tobaccos, but even more aged cigars can have them.

I believe it's around 80 degrees F. I was very worried about this (it's usually around 80 degrees in my house... Arizona sucks). You can avoid beetle outbreaks by doing a freezing cycle with the cigars. I did 24 hours in the fridge, 72 in the freezer, and 24 in the fridge. This will kill all the larva, and won't have any negative effect on the cigars as long as you place them in a humidor afterwards.http://www.cigarsinternational.com/html/cig101_7mob.asp
NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
ya from my experience beetles do there damage when your heat gets too high..humidity has nothing to do with it..i always kept my humidity between 65-70% and my temp no higher then 75 degrees
Hippo_Master
Do you have any real cigars in your humi? Do not put flavored sticks in with real cigars. Or infused sticks either. Those are just flavored too.
