mattarios2
yes could be the ice. If it goes through drastic temperature changes, it can cause the glass to crack.
Barnaby
Are you dropping the ice in? repetitive dropping of the ice in the vase could crack it over time, considering the glass used on these vases are more than likely not tempered, and is probably more fragile than you'd think.Might want to hold the vase parrarell to the ground, and put in your cubes, pushing them in, so they slide in vs. drop in.. While I don't think that this is the definative answer, it could be a contributing factor to it, in addition to things like temperature changes, storage, etc.. Stuie
what kind of base?Yes can effect it. But more so if it's a cheap Chinese Base.
liquidglass
could be wrong but sounds like you're rinsing it with hot water then dropping ice in. Which would crack it.And if you are putting ice in the bottom then put a bit of water in first to soften the fall.

Karot
If it is a temperature thing due to the ice, try putting in the freezer for an hour or so beforehand, so its a more gradual decrease. Glass is very resistant to very high/low tempertures, unless to gets to those temperatures too fast in which case it will break.

Dr. B
water -> ice ; not ice -> waterthat's most likely the problem.
grill vogel
thanks for the replies guys.well, usually i clean it with hot water and let it sit for a bit before i use it. and the way i set it up is i use cold water, and when i do use ice, i fill it to just below the stem level, and then drop some cubes into it. not sure of the make of the second base, but the first one is probably a chinese made one.
