the_cool
I want to buy a steel mesh to help light coals on my gas stove. I understand I cant use galvanised steel as it will release toxic fumes. So i belive I need to use stainless steel? Thing is, In order for it to help light the coals, the metal needs to glow red right? If the metal is too thick it wont glow.Everywhere in the UK has galvanised not stainless steel, so ebay is my option. I have found this:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stainless-Steel-Wove...=item3a53c3e08bScroll down till you see a series of pics, should I get the first size mesh or the second size mesh?Im hoping someone who has used a mesh can give me some input.Thank youPeace
destructo
you know those food bins that they have at all you can eat buffets? and you know the trays that go in the bottom of them? i put my coals on those. its pretty much thicker wiremesh over SS tubing. somewhere there is a little copper in there because sometimes i get a green flame
the_cool
Hmm I still wouldn't know where to source something like that. I really think the UK is RETARDED for everything. Cant get cheap/wide range of tobacco, cant get a coil burner, cant ship tobacco from US legally without paying tax and I cant even find a simple steel mesh! This mesh is quite cheap, how thick is your mesh? And does it glow red or is that not needed to light the coals?
destructo
probably 1/8" maybe 3/16th for the mesh and 1/4 for the support
ih303
Not to hijack the thread, but I've been wanting to find some kind of screen/grill to put on the bottom of the coal carriers at my lounge so the coals stay lit even on the down-facing side. Has anyone done this?
destructo
this is the wiremesh tray that does in the bottom of food pans so that they dont soak up grease. what ever they are called should work fine
