Hookah Trouble, Need Help

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've been having trouble with my Bambino hookah the last 4 or 5 times I've tried smoking and I can't figure out what the problem is for the life of me. Every time I take a hit, I get little to no smoke and a nice mist of charcoal dust in my mouth. I tried cleaning the hose, the same thing happened. I took a hit right from the base without the hose to test, and the same thing happened so I know its not the hose. I've rigorously cleaned every part of the hookah but the same thing keeps happening.

Anyone have any idea what the deal is?

next..is that a mya hose your cleaning? if your cleaning it with water then it may be bits of rust your getting in your mouth and possiably blowing rust pieaces into your hookah vase when you try to purge..even though mya says washable hose they are not washable..also what type of bowl are you using and how many and how big are you making the coals? it sounds like your getting ash sucked into your bowl..

ya, if you look at how far the charcoal would have to travel, through the tobacco, down the pipe into th e water, out of the water into the top of the base, from there through your hose, it's impossible for it to be charcoal. I'd say the dust is a rusting out hose. Even mya washables eventually rust.

As to how you are getting crap when you hit the port directly without a hose.....that is truely odd. Can you post a picture of the inside of the stem?

good idea, i didnt think of it, but maybe the inside of the stem is flaking and the bits are getting sucked down into the vase?

The bambino isn't cast brass like other MYA's so it really can't flake... I'm assuming ur hose/hose port is leaking air...

Thanks a lot for all the responses guys. I looked inside the stem and inside the ports, they look "tarnished" but I don't think they are rusty. I didn't see any flaking. If its THAT rusty I'd probably have to throw the thing out. I'm thinking it might be that there is rust inside the hose. I did get some stuff in my mouth when hitting directly from the valve, but I did this after I tried purging with the hose, so I probably blew some rust dust in there like that. I'm going to set it up in a bit and try taking some fresh hits from the valve to try and verify if its the hose or not. Its a generic replacement hose, I think it's an Egyptian, that I paid about 10 dollars for a year ago, so it might be time for another.

However, the "tarnishing" is kind of worrying me. I just looked inside of the grommet again and I really can't tell if its tarnished or rusty. It doesn't look like anything is flaking off though. I also just rinsed the grommet and ports then blew into them over a paper towel to see if any rust or flakes came out, and nothing so far, so it probably is the hose.

You know what, when this whole thing started I did notice the hookah was making a hissing noise I hadn't heard before, and I couldn't find a leak anywhere. You think there might be a hole in the hose? Or the hose port came loose?

try a new hose..buy one of those healthy hoses that are really cheap they are supposed to be disposable..that way if it doesnt happen then you know it was the hose not the hookah then you can invest in a nice washable hose..but if it happens again then its not just the hose theres something going on with the hookah itself..
Take the hose out, place the hose port end in your hand, and blow into the mouth tip. If it's rusting, which it sounds like it is, you'll get a nice handful of black powder.

I tried this and I got a handful. Then I put the end over a paper towel and blew, and it looked like i was airbrush painting it brown. Yea, I think the hose is rusting. Thanks a lot for the tip. I've gotta wonder how much of that crap I've breathed in. I'll be the first to get tetanus from a hookah hose. Edited by Dias
