Weird Crap In Base

Recommended Posts

What i've noticed with my hookah base is that sometimes i get black stuff stuck to the bottom of the glass base. i have to wash it out and scrub it to get it off, i have no idea what it is and it only builds up after not thoroughly cleaning it with a brush

Any idea what it is?

(yes i do rinse my hookah regularly!)

ya, I've had that...that is dirt from the charcoal...I think maybe it could be binding with whatever molasses is dripping down the stem and thats whats making it more difficult to clean...
I came to this conclusion because it happens with me when I use a phunnel; when I use an egyptian I get different colors like shades of brown in the bottom.

I use rock salt and vinegar, It works really well, just a lil rock salt and like a tablespoon or 2 of vinegar. Swish it around and then dump it out, then clean with soap and water.

Could I put my hookah stem and pieces in a tub of this solution and set overnight? My hookah is really starting to stank... bad.

Iodaphor will kill all mold and bacteria. Fill your base with water and dump a capful of Iodaphor in it. Let it sit about ten minutes and pour it out, it should take any mold out with it. It doesn't leave a stink or residue like bleach does.

We use this stuff to clean and sanitize homebrewing equipment... Works great on hookahs too.

Get some here:

Or at any local homebrew store. Works great.

man id be worried so smoke out of a vase after using bleach on it..

You do have to rinse it out good. But the flip side is if you don't want to you bleach, clean your base after every session.

I have used bleach on a few hookahs I have bought used. Never had any problems. After I let the bleach do it's thing, rinse it out several times if I can still smell bleach, I throw it in a sink full of Hot Water and Dawn.
