king_lunchb0x
well i have been greatly disappointed lately. Have have been getting no flavor at all when i smoke, i use to about 2weeks ago, but now for some reason i get some weird taste or no taste at all. Ive smoked mizo, reg nak,AF,al amir and i get no flavor out of any of them except mizo mint (even just little bit mixed with something all i still taste is mint nothing else). So what did i do wrong? Is it the hose? I have tried some warm water and lemon juice several times...using the same funnel and coal setup as b4 when i did get flavor... im a just getting sick or something and cant taste it?? paleaze halp me, its driving me crazy Edited November 4, 2009 by king_lunchb0x
king_lunchb0x
my theory is some ghosting going on in the hose from the mint ive used b4. of course i washed it several times and sometimes lemon juice but still either no taste or weird taste. what other things can i use the cut ghosting besides lemon juice in a nammor hose? mattarios2
I assume you wash your bowl and stem regularly? Do you scrub the hose port out well? What kind of hookah is it?

king_lunchb0x
yes i try to get into the hose port as best as possible, dont have anything that goes all the way but close enough.... and the second hose port got destroyed, had to use poxy becuase the port itself had leaks on the side now its just my 1 hose p.o.s
NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
that may be the problem..its not air tight
king_lunchb0x
well the one side should be i will replace the vase grommet it is pretty worn, but what i did was sealed up the other hose port completely, modable waxe plugs the hole from the inside near the stem so no leakage from there. maybe grommets and little ghosting, can u use vinegar on a hose or does the odor and taste linger?? Arcane
hmmm...if you're getting really nice clouds...it may be too much heat...back off a half-coal's worth of heat and see if that helps...also, allows the bowl to heat up gradually...it may help, too...if it's thin clouds, it may be not enough heat...add more and see what you get. if you get a lot of smoke, but still no flavor...see number one. also, you may need to pack more tobacco in the bowl. i'm not a proponent of packing less tobacco.... Genie
How are you storing your shisha? A ghosting hose wouldn't kill the flavor, it would just taint it. Have you checked the hose itself for leaks? When you prepare the hookah, are you using a lot of ice? Are you using water or something else? Are you making sure there's about 1.5 to 2 inches of water over the tip of your downstem? If all your food and drinks taste and smell normal to you, then you can probably rule out some sort of sinus infection. Are you in the habit of eating or drinking anything in particular before smoking hookah? Some foods can deaden your taste buds temporarily. On any new medications? Some medications can change the way things taste.
ilikemyusername
you don't use 3k or goldens do you? ql coals ruin a bowl, except for johns coals, they're solid in my book.

I havent been doing or taking anything different from what i was doing before. No leaks in hose practically brand new. I packed some fresh out fot he box mizo watermelon and great success great smoke good flavor...so i narrowed it down to the shisha. and yes i do use ql's, always have so i based my prior experience on that botched one..if that makes any sense. Just trying to eliminate possibilities. Ziplock baggies and plastic tubs sound fine, unless they aren't air tight those shouldn't be a problem. king_lunchb0x
nope out of the fridge and sun i squeeze all the air i can out of it as possible. the reason why i think the shisha was old was because ive never seen anyone else buying and most stuff he carries is old and close to expiration, while some is past the exp by abut 3-4 years. of course i cant tell with the nak cause no date, when i ask he just says, its still good lasts for years with no problems

If all the stuff you bought from this guy has been bad from the start, then it's quite possible he didn't store it very well and it was skanked before you got it. I recently bought some stuff that was two years past its expiration and it was still fine, great in fact. I attribute that to how well the lounge I bought it from stored it. It was covered with dust and the boxes were pretty beaten up so I was dubious, but I guess he kept it temperature controlled and away from the windows because it really did smoke great. antouwan
according to eric: plastic bags ARE NOT fine. plastic tubs are only fine if they meet two criteria: 1. they are poly propylene (has a "PP" above the recycling symbol). and 2. are recyclable #5, this prevents any flavor loss and possible flavor tainting i believe is what he said. the plastic baggies could be your problem, especially if they've been in there for a while. king_lunchb0x
well couldnt hurt to switch out the bags for some cheaper PP tubs thanks
