Chip
Hey I got a Mya QT that I have had for around 2 years now and recently have been having problems with it. What I am encountering is problems with getting large amounts of smoke. I have a couple other hookahs and haven't ever ran into this problem especially with my Mya's. Last night I took the QT completely apart and gave it a really good cleaning. Then I put it all back together, filled the base with the same amount of water as always, packed it with Layalina (my favorite brand) put foil on like normal and lit it up with 3 kings 40mm charcoals. After a couple of minutes trying to start it the smoke was really thin so I put my wind cover on to make it burn a little hotter in hopes of getting some thicker smoke, but that didn't work either. After this I decided to take it apart again and try changing the seals on the hookah. I changed the seal on the pipe that goes into the water, the seal where the hose connect and the bowl valve seal. The only one i didn't change was the large seal that keeps the stem and base air tight. I also changed the hose to one off my gf's hookah (Mya Bambino). The I tried to smoke it again with the same bowl as before ( I did this all in about 10 min) and only noticed that it became harder to pull in air, which I thought I was getting closer but still no luck. Then finally i decided to see if maybe it was the bowl I packed was not good because it had all the juices from the bottom of the container in it and thought maybe that could be part of it. I took my gf's Bambino and got it ready and transferred the bowl over. Sure enough it was smoking great right away. Is there anything I'm missing here it makes no since? The QT had always been the best smoking hookah out of the other 5 I own and it just seemed to have died. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks. antouwan
you said you took it completely apart. check the seal between the detachable downstem and the actual heart/shaft of the pipe. make sure it's screwed in straight and you didn't screw up the threading. delSol_si
I'd say check it for leaks before you put the bowl on. Put the entire hookah together, put your finger over the hole the bowl goes on, ut your mouth to the hose port, and suck in. Is there a leak? If so, thats probably your problem. I had troubles with my QT i just got in, it turned out the downstem tube was wobbly and the top piece that screws on to hold the ash tray in place and put your bowl on was leaking. The downstem doesn't really matter a whole lot, all that does it makes sure the smoke gets filtered first, which wouldn't really affect the amount of smoke, just the "healthyness" of it, so to speak. To fix the top piece, I just took some teflon tape, wrapped it around the threading and put the piece back on, problem solved. A couple more places to check for leaks are where you screw the purge vale and hose port into the hookah. If you twisted the hose the wrong way when putting your hose on your hookah, it will make it go loose.
Chip
alright thanks I'll try these things and report back. One other question. Do you think if i boiled my stem to get all the carbon/resin shit out, it would hurt the finish of the piece?
Genie
Here's an off-the-wall thought. maybe the downstem cracked. On my Bambino the downstem isn't a solid tube, it's got a seam. Maybe try removing the downstem, plugging one end with your finger, and blowing on the other end? Perhaps the seam separated?
Stuie
Off the top of my head, sounds like a packing issue, if isn't the seals.
Chip
I thought that too but i transferred that same bowl from the qt to the bambino and it smoked fine on the bambino.
Stuie
Setup the hookah with water in the base, no Bowl and hose attached.Put your thumb over the top of the hookah, to block off the top of the stem and pull from the hose. If you get air... start tracking it down.Check Purge Valve First. then put your hand around where the stem and base connect to see if there is air flow. Then add Plumbers tape to the threads of the downstem and rescrew it in.
