First Hookah Purchase

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Friend of mine got me into the hobby, and I plan to finally purchase my own hookah. I stumbled upon this forum when doing my research.

I was all set on the Mya QT, then my fiance and I traveled to a friends house and gave his 31" Mya Frost a smoke and enjoyed the experience. Aesthetically, the Frost surely is more impressive than the QT, although what is the difference in smoke quality? WIll we see a subsantial difference in the smoke due to the size of the hookah?

Although my friend had the 4 hose setup of the Frost, we ended up passing the single hose and really enjoyed the experience, so I am very flexible in that. Personally, I enjoy the experience passing the hose and prefer the single hose setup.

Budget is $150-$200, having to order shisha, upgrading the hose and coals. I definitely like the looks of the Mya's and I hear they are a little more wash friendly than some other hookahs (this could be the n00b in me speaking).

Thanks for any insight, this being my first purchase I want to make sure I start off in the right direction.

Sounds like you're pretty well informed. Most people say all Myas smoke the same. I highly suggest the QT- I own one and it is amazing. For the price, you can't beat it. A lot of people will tell you it puts out as big of clouds as the big Myas. I know mine certainly does. I say go for it and don't look back...

EDIT: Oh, and I've owned several different hookahs, including a Mya QT, an Al Fakher 24", a 32" Khalil Mamoon Trimetal, and now a QT again. The QT is, I believe, the most easy to deal with (cleaning/setup) and the cheapest. It won't put out clouds quite like a KM will, but it's pretty damn close. Definitely get a wide-draw hose when you get yours (if you get a QT). Good ones are Nammors and Razans. I own a blue small Nammor and it accents my blue QT great. The wide-gauge of the hose allows for a less restricted draw, allowing more smoke with less effort.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you ultimately decide. Edited by INCUBUSRATM

Thanks for all of the help everyone.

I am down to the QT and the Mya Vortex. I think I am going to go with the Vortex (bosses decision), the Nammor Hose, and the Coco Coals, the latter 2 of 3 I was already purchasing based on research here. Just want to make sure I make an informed decision and not waste money because I want to go bigger and better within a few months.

Shisha wise, my previous sessions were with Al Fakher shisha (Strawberry, chocolate and apple). I will probably just experiment with different kinds until I find some real home runs for the two of us and friends. Gives us more of an excuse to smoke :-)

Any particular flavors that people just rave about or will it simply come down to preference as I expect?

Thanks everyone! Edited by mosuavea

when not in use it is a pleasure to just look at it..

funny thing is girls say that about me too!! hahaha...jk. only Joe and Jess say that about me. sad.gif sometimes Scarlett too, but only when he's drunk...

anyways, are you only considering Mya hookahs? do you prefer the chinese/modern look? Ever considered a KM? i love my KMs and honestly think you should give them some consideration.

as far as tobacco, AF is a bit inconsistent so take any bad experiences with a grain of salt. the problem with that is, do you really want to spend money on a 50/50 chance?

Nakhla is a good tobacco to learn on...but, if you're not used to smoking unwashed tobacco or cigarettes, you may not enjoy your first few sessions. the nicotine buzz may be a bit much for some people.

Tangiers (Lucid) line isn't really a "beginner's" tobacco, but its a lot more forgiving that the Original line. If you're a few months into hookah, you might want to give that a shot.

And if you're willing to spend the money, I will recommend SB. Its easy to learn, smokes fairly well, and the flavors are appealing to a wider audience. This may be your safest bet as far as washed shishas go. Edited by Arcane
