What Coals To Use?

I know that natural coals work much better than quick-lights - but having to wait for coals to light up is too daunting for me. Do quick-lights make the experience that much worse? Im using al-fakher quick-lights. Any thoughts?

one thing though, they have a name that we are not allowed to use here the C word im referring to, so when you you wana talk about them we call them CH coals..they are very good..i used to use 3 kings and these shit on them easily...also these have a great price you get 108 pieces for only $14

AF instant lights = garbage. They were just as weak as the "starlight" instant lights my buddy gave me.
I never tried those CH coals so I cant say much about them. My instant light of choice would be the Golden coals (the over sized ones that is). I use instant lights when I take my pipe outside my home. Other than that, I always use natural coals @ home (coconara, af coco coals, and exotica)

Coconara's for natural. CH QL's for quick lights. And the last I'd recommend and use is Golden Canary's for Tangiers and if you want an easy light that lights off one another.

Waiting for natural coals to light is no big deal. They take about ten minutes, more or less depending on what brand you get. Set them on your electric coil (a must for nat coals) and set up your rig. You'll have to flip the coals once while they're heating, but that takes seconds. By the time your rig is ready, so are your coals. Works out just fine.

I use Diamante naturals because they are the right price for my budget, but I've tried a lot of natural coals and Stargates and Shishacos are my favorites. But Shishaco's are pricey and Stargates aren't sold by many vendors. Coconara's are fine. I don't like AF naturals at all. Haven't tried John's naturals, ordered some (not from him) but got sent the QL's instead. I don't use them unless I take my hookah somewhere. Hate QL's. Naturals are SO much better.

The last time I used QL's, I used the 3K variety. I didn't notice the taste so much as I noticed how crappy they burned. It's like, by the time those weak ass coals got the bowl hot enough to smoke, it was time to put new ones on. They seriously only lasted like ten minutes or so. And forget about moving them. Any attempt to apply tongs resulted in the coal just falling apart. Pathetic. I will never use those coals ever again.

CH coals are great, they light so fast. I would try those.

In quicklights the Al Fakher and Three Kings seem to be the best. As for inbetween coals you might want to try the Exotica Japanese style charcoals with the silver coating. They light up within 1-2 minutes and work very well.

+1 The time it takes is almost perfect to get your rig set up and pack the bowl. I like to switch between coals alot. Sometimes getting coconaras or the CH coals. Both work great. If I'm smoking Tangiers, I used Golden Canaries.

why not put the coals on, set up the hookah and all...by the time you're done with the set up...the coals should be done...or at least, pretty close...

It depends on youre mood. If u r patient then i would prefer the natural ones. The difference just is to great :0)

If you don't want to wait, don't have a way to light the naturals, or just want to go with quick lights for any other reason,
Gold Crown coals are the best quick lights.

This site is killin me! I've been using nothing but 3Kings. I thought it SEEMED like I had to use too many... Dang it... now I'm gonna have to find a new store because the chode that I buy from here only has 3K.
