Buzz, No Buzz, What's A Buzz?

Recommended Posts

Last night I went to a hookah lounge to conduct some business and catch up with a colleague. This place serves every flavor of SB and Nak DA, and AF Grape. NOw I like to taste SB once in awhile, I'm not knocking it at all, I think it "smells" great. But I knew it would be a long night and went right for the Nak DA. No buzz for me, just smoking away for an hour and a half (drinking tea as well, full stomach) and then I got bored with Nak DA. Not bored enough to go for SB but bored enough to go to AF grape (and I hate grape, but it would be a change)
So I ordered AF Grape, and they bring me SB Royal Grape. At first I thought it was just ghosting in the pipe, but it turned out to be SB Royal Grape. I didn't complain because Royal Grape is a great grape if you are into it, it has a feature to it that is like the Kashmir in the Tangiers K flavors, it's velvety. No complaints as the flavor was ok and I didn't feel like asking them to replace it.
Now about 5 minutes into it my nose runs, actually drips on to my upper lip, gross right. I start feeling uneasy, like a buzz (to me a buzz is not a good thing). I start sneezing. All of this when I made the change to from Nak to SB. I even get a bit sweaty. All of these symptoms kept going on for the next hour as I was smoking. I do blame it on what type on ingredients they put into SB.
Now this is not a thread to bash SB. Nor is it to say that Nakhla is better. Some folks are used to SB and this may not happen to them. I'm sure if I start smoking SB daily I will not have this problem. Nor do I remember having this as an issue in the past. I just thought that it was odd that everything was fine while smoking Nakhla until I made the change to SB. Any thoughts?

(disclaimer: I am not bashing nor favoring either brand. As a vendor I would love to drop the Nakhla line, it makes little profits and SB makes a ton more. I would rather sell SB more than any brand because of the profit margins. This is just a personal experience I wanted to share)

SB royal grape is a grape + floral flavor, it's very light and not too fantastic.

John, it sounds like you had bad coals, not a nicotine buzz. Those are symptoms of monoxide.

+1

Are you sure your tobacco was not burning? That's the feeling I get when I smoke burned tobacco.

never had my nose run smoking hookah. in fact it's usually the opposite. my nose kinda dries up.

for those that were saying its the coals, if it's the same coals they used, why didn't that happen during the Nakhla session?

i'd say most likely, it's something to do with whatever is in SB...John, you should stock Royal Grape...i'll buy a tin and see if i get the same results. i did try Pumpkin Pie yesterday and there's just something in it that tastes off. No buzz or nothing, but you can tell there's something in the tobacco that Nakhla or Tangiers doesn't have. Maybe what ever that "something" is caused your reaction...

on rare occasion when i smoke my nose starts to run. might be an allergic reaction to the ingredients in the shisha. this happens usually when im smoking AF, although since AF is one of my favorite brands i still smoke it.

never had a problem with Nakhla though, so my guess it might be in the "dye" that brands put on the flavours Edited by wesclrg

This happens to my friend when we smoke AF but not when we smoke SB, Tang, Nak, or Fantasia. My guess is it could be something to do with the body being used to some aspect of the tobacco, coal, or maybe it's just a cold. More like is the fact that smoking dries out the sinus caveties and a runny nose is the body's way of re-wetting the nasal cavities.

It could be numerous factors why that may have happened to you. As much as SB is a big rip, I still like few of their flavors. I never got sick or ill smoking SB. Is it possible that lounge had a bad serving of SB royal grape for you?

i actually get a headache everytime i smoke royal grape so i stopped, but it is the only time i get a bad feeling with SB usually SB stuff smokes great for me with no buzz or headache. I think it might be the flavor, because some of my friends get uneasy with AF vanilla and esk apple. Everyone is different, maybe some flavors can be allergic?

they were using natural bulk coal and like i said, everything was perfect woith the nak i was smoking for the hour before, maybe i'll go smoke some sb now....maybe not, i'll see i need an afternoon hookah,

Maybe you just had some nicotine built up in your system from the nakhla. then you got the SB and started smoking faster, because of the lighter smoke. these two combined explinations may expalin why it happend.

or maybe the brand of coals they used relesed a bit of CO2 and they eventully got to you giving you a simmilar senseatin to a buzz.

maybe it was a combitation of the amount of nicotiene in your body and the amount of CO2 in your body that produced these effects.

the possibiltys of why this happend are endless.

i may pick up a few cans of starbuzz and see for myself..hopefully they finally added the buzz part to it..lol

that would be great. i always found it ironic that the name was starbuzz, yet there is no buzz to speak of.

A dirty hose will "ooze" liquid that is bitter, metallic and numbing. I would imagine a hose smoked with something with less nicotine would be different...I would attribute it to the lounge and the hose rather than the Starbuzz...but I haven't smoked Starbuzz in awhile.

I did get that effect from DPG-based flavorings years ago. Trembly, heart racing, sweaty, nervous, general sick feeling, tightness in my chest. I can't believe Starbuzz would use flavors like that...they're not FDA compliant...nor is DG. Thats why I doubt its the Starbuzz...its more likely liquid reflux in a nasty hose.
