One Month

It's been one month since I decided to quit cigarettes, and I couldn't be happier. I smoked for two years, averaging a pack per day, until I woke up exactly one month ago and decided that I didn't want to live my life as a smoker anymore. If anyone's curious, I didn't use any form of nicotine replacement products, I just stopped cold-turkey and let my body detoxify itself. It certainly wasn't easy the first couple of days, but things keep getting better and better.

Hopefully this will give someone that's wanting to quit a bit of inspiration to do so, it will be one of the best decisions you'll ever make.

for the next 45 seconds...after that, i'm gonna take a cig break while i'm at work...

haha...actually, not to make light of your situation, quitting cigarettes was probably one of the top 5 hardest things i did in my life...it lasted about 18 months...but, once a major speedbump in life, it was back to smoking...

congrats on your accomplishment...hoping the best for you!

assuming you still smoke hookah? if so, have you increased the amount of hookah you've been smoking? I quit a while back, but as someone else mentioned above, speedbumps in life can leave you looking for comfort in the wrong places. I had never been a pack a day until after that (and most of the time I'm still not a pack a day, but I do smoke more or less depending on mood.) In any case, I've not had many good sessions lately, looking forward to a nice big christmas order via gift $$. I noticed when I quit that I went from smoking hookah like 3 times a week to daily, usually just one bowl when I got home from work or something, but the weekends I'd smoke a lot too.
Over time I had started to finally cut down, but then I'm back to smoking now, but I'd like to get off cigs again, there's a definite difference in how you feel after a cig and after a hookah session. It's like I can feel the "gunk" in my lungs after a cig, and while I know hookah isn't good for you, it never makes me feel like I've rolled my lungs in dirt. I think I will try and quit now too, I've gone a couple days without smoking the past month and then back to it. I can feel ready but I have to decide on being ready, its all in our heads! Willpower. Good luck with it man, you've inspired another person, I will keep looking for updates, and let you know how it goes for me.

I haven't had a cig since... June.
I smoked a pack a week for about 3-4 months off and on. Hookah is all I personally need for my nicotine.
Relaxes me better than anything

I have increased the amount of hookah I smoke, like what happened to you I smoke pretty much every day now as opposed to a few times a week. I really think this stems from me simply wanting something to do in my downtime, the time I spent smoking cigs is now spent smoking hookah. I have wondered if I really am free from nicotine, or if hookah has become my new source, but considering that if I want to smoke but don't have the time or have something I need to do, I don't have any nicotine cravings like I did when I couldn't smoke cigarettes. I do agree that most of it is in your head, but for the first week after you quit smoking cigarettes, there is a chemical imbalance in your brain that can only be fixed with time. When I quit, I didn't smoke hookah for a week or so to make sure that my body had fully rebalanced itself, during this period of detoxification any nicotine at all will reset the process. After that, however, it really is just a matter of willpower.

One great thing to do is to tell your friends that don't smoke that you've decided to quit, every day that I would go to class or work, my friends would ask me how it's going, and it really helped keep me accountable. I didn't want to disappoint the people close to me.

I hope it goes well for you, this site really helped me out in developing the willpower to not smoke anymore, if you understand exactly what's going on in your body whenever you have a nicotine craving, you realize that it really is something you can do.

Awesome. Congrats. Everyone I know who says they quit say it's the best decision they ever made. I smoke Primetimes once in a while. I never carry Primetimes though, just occasionally pick one up before work. So the smokers at work always try and get me to come out and have one of their cigs. The other day I did and.. well, I'll stick to hookah and the rare mini cigar. I got no benefit whatsoever from the cig... if I'm gonna smoke something I at least wanna feel a bit relaxed, man.

Anyways, don't go back. Stay strong. Just smook the hook smile.gif

That's awesome. Quitting smoking is no joke. I once quit for 5 years, and then (like someone said) a major speed bump hit me like a ton of bricks. I started smoking cigs again, but I quit again, and I only smoke my hookah on the weekends (2 small bowls). Once in a blue moon, I'll smoke a cigarette (or primetime). Since it's gotten cold, it's strictly hookah on the weekends.
