Im trying to smoke alot less, i wanna clean my lungs out... ive been smoking for almost 6 years. so im only gonna smoke when im really stressed out, and im not stressed out. im not buying alot of hookah supplies now because ive adopted other hobbies to occupy my time. and can longer afford to pay for other peoples smoking habbits.

How about you don't do that. Just straight up say "hey guys, this is getting expensive, don't ever invite yourselves over to smoke my hookah unless you want to pay like a hookah bar." either that or tell your friends that they are friends of the situation. Lying is a dick move. Being honest is simply the truth.

Depending on what kind of shisha you're smoking and what kind of bowl (and coals) you're spending anywhere from $0.50-$3.00 per bowl!

For sure. In the end, when they find out you lied, it would be a lot "meaner" than if you just told them straight up in the first place. When they come over you can just say I don't allow friends to partake anymore because I had a lot of people taking advantage. That way you're not pointing them out, but you are letting it be known. Eventually when moochers came over I'd be like 'yo I only have this hookah-hookah tobacco, I'll buy some better stuff tomorrow if ya'll chip in', then I'd put a jar for money on the table next to the hookah that somehow always filled up after people smoked the hookah-hookah shisha xD

Just have a collection plate in the front area of your house. Like a Church. if people won't help you pay for the tobacco they smoke, then they can stay outside and not smoke. I usually get 20-30 bucks every time smoking lasts 3+hours (a few bowls, but loaded with Lucid and Noir)

When ever i had a problem like this back at home, i would have my mom come out and be like "hey there's too many people here you need to leave" and she didn't care, see if she wants to be the bad guy, then you aren't a dick, and these people leave you alone!

Like mentioned before, you can say "no" without being a dick. Give a line along the effect of, "I am sorry but I cannot afford to keep smoking you guys out with free tobacco. If you would like to pitch in some money or bring some tobacco and coals of your own, I will be more than happy to smoke with you." That being said, it sounds like these people are just trying to exploit your generosity for free hookah sessions. They found a guy who is nice enough to smoke them out for free and they are gonna keep coming back and taking advantage of you until you put an end to it. Quite frankly, I think people like those deserve to be treated like shit, told to fuck off and never come back, and have the door slammed on their face. On the other hand, they may just be ignorantly unaware of how much this is costing you. They may not be intentionally exploiting you as much as simply being immature. Either way, you are kinda being a dick to society in a way by reinforcing this behavior and not teaching these asshats a lesson in consideration. Lying is kind of a weak move and honestly, these people aren't worth lowering yourself to that level over. Confrontations suck but sometimes they are necessary, like vaccinations or dentists...

Ive had friends that became leaches and just come over, smoke your hookah, steal your drinks, and leave. Skip them and don't offer them a turn... they will eventually stop coming to your place if they are ignored.

I use to just tell people I was out of tobacco, but if they went to the store and bought some they could use my hookah. That usually meant they didn't smoke any hookah cause they were were too lazy/cheap to buy their own stuff.

That way it didn't offend anyone. And the couple times someone did end up buying their own tobacco to bring over, after they were done they left the tobacco at my house since they didn't have a need for it. Edited November 23, 2009 by T355

Well, do what you will, but I say honesty is the best policy. What if those friends find out you lied? Too much drama that can be avoided, if you ask me. People are generally more accepting if you're just straightforward with them.

I don;t think lying to them to get rid of them will be taken better than just telling them no. You don't let them get away with mooching, it won't matter...they'll be whiny. On the other hand, if you limit the onvites to two or three and don't allow others in, then they will be sucking up to you, which you can either decline or revel in. Play this shit if they're going to be gettin' in your stash. I got 300 bottles of booze. I've been collecting since I was in college. You don't think I kept it going by letting the moochers in...do ya?

Just had a smoke session on my porch. Some dude was walking by and heard the bubbling. There's a tree right in front of my porch, so he couldn't even see me, my set up, whatever. But he still had the moochness to call out "Hey can I get some of that?" I just replied, "No, sorry dude. I'm reading and relaxing and want to be alone." He just walked off. Best way to deal with them is to deny them from the get go. Hope you can do that from now on, dude.

How would they not notice this? If I was smoking and my hose got unplugged I would immediately realize what had happened and you wouldnt even have a chance to blow in the other end.. (thats gross btw)

to me the solution is simple; just tell them that it isn't fair that you're paying to support their habit. it makes no sense. or that you need some type of reciprocation in order to finance their smoking.

that, or if you're completely hell bent on being a nice guy - even these guys are completely shitting all over you - go to a local shop and buy the cheapest piece of shit hookah you can, no more than 20 bucks. go buy a couple of hookah hookah shots and a roll of the cheapest instant lites you can find and present it to them as a 'gift'. tell them that you knew they liked to ookah it up at your place so much you thought you'd get them their own. then you get off with them while looking like a super-nice guy (or a complete pussy, depending on their perspective), they think you're cooler than sliced bread, you get them out of your fucking hair, and all for about 25 bucks or so.

I have a similar problem. Here's the thing. Since I've been smoking hookah there's always been people that have wanted to smoke with. I've also brought my hookah to parties. Usually I don't mind it. But that's just me being a pushover with the hookah situation. I've had one guy throw me $10 bucks at a party and another girl throw me a few bucks every time we've smoked. I've never really asked for anything. But it can get expensive. I just don't know how to deal with it. I like smoking with people, but I want them to pay up if we are going to be smoking for 5+ hours with 10 people. I'm not sure how much I should charge though. One group of people with usually 10 people will request a couple different flavors. I have to set my hookah up, clean it and all. Keep packing the bowls, getting down the heat management and using all those coals. A lot of times it will take me like 10 minutes to light coals because I have to do it at an open flame when I'm at my cousins. Lately every time I smoke people want bubbles and shit for blowing hookah bubbles so I provide all that too. I feel like I do a lot really when I don't even smoke everyday. I smoke once in a while by myself but that's pretty much it.

I think I just need to come up with a formula for charging people. One thing I thought of was to look at it this way. About half the people that smoke with me are cig smokers. They know the cost of there cigarettes and I don't even think that hookah would be that expensive. For them it shouldn't be a big deal. Most even want a hookah or like hookah better.

Meh....any ideas?

well i was thinking of charging but id rather just be with my homeboy and smoke hookah with out muchers. i did come up with a couple ideas though.

1.Make a reservation. this means no coming over asking to smoke and no calling up to smoke. if you wanna smoke its an appointment. give them a time when they can smoke, if they cant smoke then cause they have something to do who cares. set the apointment at a time thats best for you.

2. charge on a bowl but bowl basis. find a bowl that will be your "profit bowl" i thing a small tangiers phunnel with 2 rounds of coals is $10 at least $15 at most. or a 2 hour smoke session for $15.

3. BRING YOUR OWN MOTHERFUCKING ROOT BEER!

Well I feel like if I ask them to smoke it's more of you can smoke for free. But I think if I have it out and people want to smoke I can charge. Then again there's some that like to smoke only a little and I dunno what to do with them. I suppose since they don't smoke a lot they can for free anyway.

I think a bowl basis or round of coals basis would be good and just divide it up and have them pay me after the session. I might try out leaving a tip bucket or something.
