My New, Meager Set Up

Recommended Posts

Sup all. Link here. Pretty new here. Recently moved in with new room mate, last one had a pretty nice Mya two-hoser with Nammor hoses and a phunnel bowl. Usually only brought it out for parties. Had no clue I'd miss it. Well this weekend I decided to drop some loose funds for a little setup for myself.

I got one of those $20 cheapies so that I could upgrade it myself and have the things I want. So I got a phunnel bowl and a nice hose, don't know the brand. Bad idea? Maybe on the surface. But I kid you not, this little thing now hits as well as the Mya and gets thick clouds. Here is a photo of the stuff I got:

The hookah, Ram quick lights, torch style lighter, Starbuzz Vanilla 100g, Al Fakher Lemon 50g, and a free Rosetta coconut banana 50g.

I got a great deal and the bowl, original hose and upgrade hose, and hookah itself cost $45 total. So was it a terrible idea to go for a cheapie and upgrade it? Any recommendations for coals? Edited by Link

Yes and no. If it works for you, awesome man, the thing that matters most is enjoying your setup. On the other hand, pumpkins are notoriously of bad construction so you will most likely have longevity issues. Mya really does make the best small pipes.

However the coals will prolly suck lol. I've never had an offbrand of quicklights that hasn't left a ton of chemical flavor in my mouth or made me nauseous.

Enjoy! (SB vanilla is supposed to taste like marshmallows...mmmm)

Not a TERRIBLE idea, especially if you are happy with it and happy with how much it cost you.
My first hookah was one of those cheap mini ones...

After that, I had a pumpkin very similar to yours but with all stock parts and I got it for free from my friend.
After that, I bought a Mya Econo-Gelato for $50.
In retrospect, I wish I would have just bought a Mya QT for $45 to start with, but there isn't much I can do about that now.
I got my money's worth out of the mini which hits surprisingly well and the pumpkin was free so I can't complain about that.
I haven't smoked any other Myas but the Econo-Gelato is the best hookah I have smoked so far so it doesn't really bother me that much that I probably overpaid for it a bit.
In the end, it all comes down to what you are happy with and if that happiness comes from buying something cheap and using the rest of you funds to customize it to your liking, more power to you.

As for coals, Coco Naras are really good naturals, otherwise I would recommend HookahJohn's CH coals if you want instalights.
I use both depending on whether or not I can or am willing to use naturals. Edited by Jondd88

im really not good at naming hookahs, but if i had to guess i would say mya qt?

Not sure. Isn't branded with a name. Just snatched it up pretty quick because of the good price and it was the only cheap green one haha. I was pretty sure the quality would improve with the upgrades and luckily I was right. Hope it lasts more than just a few months.

Not a Mya, Mya doesn't do acrylic on the stem like that and the heart is wrong, tis a generic chinese pumpkin, hose is def not washable, so don't lol. If you wash it it can/will rust the metal coils in the hose which will end up in ypur mouth/down your throat and is not pleasant or healthy. If that happens check out the how-to section for a cheap easy way to use the tips with vinyl tubing for a homemade conversion.

Thanks for the info. Since it was dirt cheap I don't feel so bad about it. When it starts to suck, I will upgrade to something better like a Narbish or Nammor. Anyone forsee problems with it fitting?

Hey, we can't all be you.

I have Ram coals also. They suck. I can't stand that gold flaky ashy stuff that coats the coals. I also have some bulk log shaped coals I got for a decent price. Right now, I'm on the quest for a better setup also, as well as finding a really good charcoal.

Here's my first hookah:

I'm only 2+ months into hookah smoking so far. I picked this one up in Salt Lake.
I just made some washable hoses out of vinyl tubing and the old mouthpieces from the previous hoses. They work alright, meaning I haven't had experience with using other brands of hoses so I can only judge from what I've encountered.

I use coconara coals the most. If you want a quick light coconut coal go with CH QL's. I use a phunnel bowl exclusively and it's amazing. I also recommend trying nakhla and it's mizo line and tangiers. Great stuff if you haven't tried em yet.

I know what hind of house you have.

its a sahara rope velvet rope hose. they are nice, BUT NOT WASHABLE.

if that hose doubles as a house then he got a hell of a deal laugh.gif

@ OP: i mean i'm glad it's working out for you...now. i mean, 20 bucks could have got you a phunnel and have change to spare, or a nammor (almost). IMO, the only thing coming out of east asia that's worth anything is MYA, and that's really just because of the durable construction (i could go into the horrible common chamber system, but i'll spare you). there are small hookahs at a local mediterranean grocery here for 20 - 30 bucks. . .they're all brass. i'm just saying, enjoy it for now, but start saving because you'll need to replace it much sooner than later. also, that IS NOT a mya. it's just some generic anodized aluminum chinese pumpkin style pipe that you paid too much for and probably bought at a head shop by someone who probably doesn't know jack about hookahs – just thought you should know.

also, get rid of those coals ASAP before your lungs collapse.

@ everyone: this anodized chinese crap kills a part of my soul just about every time i see someone with good intentions get suckered into buying one.

Wow! I remember this hookah being my first! I've actually still got two of them, one in red and one in white which looks so good up on a shelf in my room. Btw, you got a sick deal.

They are great little things..and as for coals, go for the coco-naras! To be honest, I should not even be advising you to get these because I havent tried them out myself yet because they still getting to me from the U.S. but apparently they meant to be the shizzle!
