Bargain or Death Trap?

Recommended Posts

So I think I may have stumbled into a bargain. While at ,y local hardware store I noticed they had big bags of "100% natural wood charcoal" for 8 bucks, and by big i mean 8.8 pounds. They seem to smoke great, but they look a little different than other natural charcoals I've seen. I know these are meant for BBQ but it seems since they're all natural, with no chemicals that they should be fine, right? If I'm wrong please let me know before I kill myself with them.

but why, natural hookah charcoal comes from lemon wood or olivewood, as does this stuff, its just packaged for bbq, however it has all the same selling points of hookah coal, no additives, oderless, and flavorless, so it all seems legit to me, but i could be wrong, i just smoked a bowl with it and everything seemed normal

Your cool..
It came in irregular chunks right? Not compressed briquettes? It's also known as "lump" charcaol and you can use the stuff. It's something we've mentioned around here from time to time. It was noted however that most of that stuff is hardwood, as opposed to the stuff we often get as "bulk natural" which is likely palm trees and such, so it may burn hotter than your usual hookah bulk natural charcoal.
Thanks for the complement Pico...

I  bought 2 boxes of quick lighting coals (100 coals per box). Each box was  $5.80. My wife asked me to keep an eye out for picnic coals since my kids wanted to do an outside grill. The store is 24/7 big hookah products store not far from my town, as I was comming out, I saw that they were selling big bags of  wood charcoal for picnics $1.70 for a bag of about 4 lbs. or so. I got 1.I'm pretty sure that I could have used them to smoke, but when I saw how long it took to get them lit I realized it would never had worked. Just to break the huge pieces and heat them for a very long time on the gas fire would be a waste of time and money.

how does the electric stove workout for you. what kind of electric do you have, the one with a coil or the one that is all flat and just has circles that heat up through the glass or w/e they have on top. i didnt think i would be able to start up a charcoal without a flame so i bought a torch

I have the coil type of electric stove and it works fine, I've heated japanese style coals and now these type of coals up on it and I've never had any issues, just turn the burner on put the coal on wait three minutes, flip the coal, then wait 2 more minutes and then there ya go.

Mesquite charcoal, although better for BBQ, are higher in sulfur. Sulfur bad. Find out what kind of wood they are, if possible. Here in San Diego, Mesquite is everywhere, its mandatory for authentic Mexican BBQ. Its imported from MExico and is about $8 for 25 Lbs. (50 lbs.???)

I have a coil-type electric, and Nours light in about 5-6 minutes. Those are very similar to bulk natural, being as they don't have starting foil like the Japanese kind, but come in round sticks instead of lumps.I just start the stove before I load a bowl, turn the coals once they get red hot on one side, and they're ready to go once I have the QT together.

I was also going to try this(The all natural BBQ lumpwood coal), but I
didn't know how to light it or if it was safe, so i went home made a
fire out of like old trees and used the coals from that.... I felt
different after smoking it for a few min so I stopped... probably did
some damage too me.

Yeah, by no means are these coal ideal I agree, but since the nearst smoke shop is a half hour away and i needed coals, I got these to try, and they work fine, felt normal at least, just they're very finicky either you get them way too hot or not hot enough, so after so trial Ive decided to stick with traditional methods, but if I'm ever in a crunch I do have a back up at least, and Tangiers, I got the non-mesquite ones because I knew about the excess sulfur, so no worries there. I wouldnt recommend these coals for everyday use, but if you live in a non-hookah friendly area and you coal stash disappears faster than u thought, these will work to hold you over basically

Yea man I know exactly how it is, im pretty sure im the only one in my whole county with a hookah. That means I have to drive at least an hour away to MAYBE get coals from a porno shop, not even a head shop. So I always get screwed over and recently they stopped selling the coals for some reason... I'm buying some of those lump today, hopefully it will be fine.

There is a fetish store in Pacific Beach that sells tobacco, coal and hookahs. Not to mention drug paraphernalia, pornography and a large line of kinky clothing for adult playtime or Heather's saturday night romps.
