IzA-Hookah
Ok, this is a tricky question and I know that the people on both sides of the issue will be largely polarized. I was smoking hookah with a friend one day and in the middle of the session he lit a cigarete. I am a non-smoker so there is a general no smoking rule in my house. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "What, your saying that we are smoking that but I can't smoke this". I didn't want to be rude so I let him and the truth is that while smoking hookah, cigaretes are not quite as nasty. If I owned my own bar, I would enforce a no smoking cigaretes, cigars, and other non-shisha forms of tobbaco. Is this weird, uncalled for, non-traditional, or just plain nazi-ish????? inimicus
There's a difference.Cigarette smoke smells poor. Cigar smell is nice. Though they both linger.Hookah... well we know. The only thing that lingers are the holes in the carpet. :As a story, my exgirlfriend lives in a rental house. The dude that lived in her room before her would smoke cigarettes in her bathroom. Now, whenever she takes a hot shower, brown sticky goo seaps from the ceiling and walls, drips on the floor/countertops/everything and makes a general mess. If she doesn't mop for a while, you stick to the floor. Gross.Smoke hookah, clean it up, and there will be no trace when you wake up in the morning. Try doing that with a cigarette. I have no idea why brown stuff would fall from the celing but I can tell you that its not from cigarettes. I smoke both my parents smoke and plenty of other people smoke in both my houses and have done so for many many years... No brown stuff anywhere... Ever... IzA-Hookah
OK so does anyone remember seeing people who wanted to smoke cigs or cigars at a hookah bar? To me its kind of insulting to the hookah. Why barbaque roadkill when you have tenderloin right there?
steve07
I think the smell of cigs, and cigars would ruin the smell of shisha.
SanguineSolitude
definately dont allow smoking cigarettes. theyre unpleasant and ruin the smell and atmosphere of the place. also its not traditional. one wouldnt bring beer to a wine bar, why bring cigs to a hookah bar? if they need a nicotine fix why dont they rent a hookah? cymptom
I smoke cigs on occasion and I always let people smoke them in my room, but it does really bring down the flavor of the hookah I think. A few times I've thought that the shisha was burning when it was actually just the smell of cigarette smoke fartin with my senses. I don't want anything to do with cigs when I'm smoking hookah...IzA, as for your friend complaining that you were ok with hookah smoke but not cigs... that makes no sense. Hookah smoke leaves almost no smell lingering in the room, and what smell there is is pleasant. Cigs can really funkify the place if its not very well ventilated... LestOH!
one wouldnt bring beer to a wine bar, why bring cigs to a hookah bar?
very good point.i think it would be rather disturbing to have someone smoke cigarettes right next to me while i'm enjoying my hookah session, that's usually the case for me when i'm at parties.. =/not implying that cigarette smokers or anyone in general are lazy, but it wouldnt hurt to walk a few steps out the door to take a few drags, you know what i mean? Lukasa
If I owned a hookah bar i wouldnt let anybody smoke that trash in there. It would ruin the aroma and taste of other smokers' shisha. plus, its just trashy.
IzA-Hookah
Amen people, amen. Funny story, I have a co-worker/friend and I really wanted to let him try hookah. I brought him to my house expecting him to fall in live with it like most smokers of anything usually do. He took a few drags and was like "its good but its not very strong, it makes me want to smoke a cig and get the real feeling". This is one person who I can imagine going into a hookah bar with friends and 10 minutes into the sesh just lighting a cig and balking at the idea that its forbidden. Friend or not, I would have to ask him to step outside. Just had a wild idea, a hookah bar with a seperate (closed off) area where you can buy cigars, rent a pipe, buy pipe tobacco, and buy fancy cigs and smoke all of it!! It would only have to be a small area as I imagine it would not see a ton of use. Could be wrong, it could take over the whole operation..... zombiedepot
If you're in a bar/lounge situation, you could also get a few air purifiers to move and filter the cigarette/cigar smoke from the air.
cymptom
Yeah, but I don't really like air to be moving so much when I'm smoking hookah. Can't really admire the smoke when it blows away as soon as it leaves your mouth...

mushrat
There ya go..thinking like customers again. Try walking up to a customer smoking a hookah, with others around smoking hookahs, lots of smoke int he air, and saying..sorry...you'll have to put that out or step outside...ya right... Better have a day job... Now, banning cigars would work, everyone would understand that5...but how about pipes? Someone wants to fire up the old Black Cavendish cause they arent into fruity shytte like their friends...you gonna object then? People gonna smoke..they gonna SMOKE. Start serving drinks...and iits over...
Sonthert
I can understand both points of view. Since my lounge is in California, I allow cigarette smoking, since in California, smoking is only legal in an establishment that sells tobacco products. If my lounge were in, Nevada, where you can smoke any tobacco product, anytime, anywhere, I would not allow smoking. If you see my point.
