Hookah Problem!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, lil problemo with my hookah which i cant seem to fix!

So I had some friends around to smoke the new KM hookah! AF Strawberry with 2 quicklight CH coals..and it was pretty fine for me but they said to me that they had to pull very hard for them to feel as if they are gettin smoke! I adjusted the air valve for them but not any change.

Any of you had the problem of drawing really hard to feel as if your taking in smoke? My girlfriend had a problem with it too and said, drawing really hard gave her a headache after 5 minutes!

Thanks for reading

what kind of hose are you using? check your pipe make sure nothing is stuck in the pipe, also remove the hose from the hookah and blow thru it and take a few hits see if it still feels tight and constricted..also check the port hole on the stem and make sure nothing is clogged there..but since you cant noticed and they do maybe they are just pulling harder then they need too..

Im using the crappy hose that came with hookah but im pretty sure with smoking with this hose only for the 2nd time shouldn't cause this much of a problem. I blew through the hose for about 2 minutes before starting up. Its kind of hard to explain but you gotta draw quite hard for the water to bubble. When my friends and girlfriend draw it, they get no bubbling..and really thin smoke!

In my case, its quite easy for me to draw hard..but for them, its difficult!

In addition to what NoB said, check to make sure there are no leaks.  The easiest way to do this is assemble the hookah without a bowl on top.  Cover the stem where you would put the bowl with your finger and draw through the hose.  You shouldn't be able to pull in any air. If you can there is a leak some where.

Hookahs aren't complicated so if there is restriction it's either the bowl (packing or foil), the bowl GASKET blocking flow, the stem/downstem, or the hose.  With a KM it shouldn't matter how much water you had, but you make want to look at the water level just in case.

thanks for that bud! very helpful..now, im thinking it could of been the water level! There is definitely no leaks! I packed the bowl quite well, i think! I used a gasket which was half torn from hookahshop.co.uk but recently, sent a new 1 for the trouble.

I will try again and maybe adjust the water level to hopefully see some good results! Thank you for all your comments people..will update you with whats happened!

are you using the tore one now? it may be that your hookah is not air tight..which is why they are taking such deep hard pulls and no smoke..i had the same problem..take off the tore gromet and use tape or take a wet paper towel and wrap it around your stem and stick it in the vase and see how it goes

Yea NoB, used the torn one at the time! I just recently got a new one from them which fits okay but not perfect! Im sure I will never shop there again, lol! But back to the topic..Il try the wet paper method then and get the girlfriend to try again! I didnt think there was a problem because Im used to taking in long hard draw's..

ya, im willing to bet its the torn grommet, also each km vase is hand made..so not two are exactly alike..so with your grommet you will need to take some sand piper and sand down the sides just enough till it fits your vase..also if you run your grommet under running water and then right away put your stem in it should slide in with little effort..

If you are using a KM hose then its your bowl or your hose. Your bowl is either over packed constricting the holes on the bottom. or the holes in your foil are too small or not enough. Try sucking through the bowl before you put it on the stem after you pack it.

check the following:

1. inner tubing - if you can see down the stem, you should be good. it'd be obviously if something was clogging the stem
2. hose port - blow/inhale through the hose port
3. hose - blow/inhale through hose

if those 3 check out, then we check your packing...

egyptian: pack a bowl and poke your holes. inhale from the bottom of the bowl. be careful because you may end up inhaling some tobacco leaves. if it's hard to inhale, then you're packing too tight.

phunnel: not really much you can do except pack your phunnel, poke holes and get to smoking. during your session, WATCH the foil and see if it dips down when you inhale. if so, it's most likely covering the hole and restricting your airflow.

try a pull without any water, there should be no restriction. if there is restriction take the stem off, and then figure out if your hose port or your downstem is clogged, should be really easy just shine a flashlight through one side and check and see if light comes out the other.

then if thats ok, try adding water to whatever point you think is good, then try the pull. if it feels restricted now, then your water level is off.

then if it feels like a good pull, pack your bowl and put it on there, but don't start coals. if it then feels restricted, the problem is that your bowl is packed to tight if your using an egyptian. if your using a phunnel and the pull is hard then you either have dropped shisha down the middle of your pipe, or your foil isn't tight enough and is getting sucked down onto the bowl.

also, put your thumb or something over the end of the hose that goes into the pipe. try and either blow or breath through the mouthpiece, ideally you shouldn't be able to.

when i first read this i thought that you might not be poking enough holes in the foil. this can completely kill the draw.

what kind of head/bowl are you using?

This might be good exercise for your girlfriend... all this pulling hard, surely it may pay off? happy.gif

Okay, I am no pro but the way you described the bowl perhaps you packed it too tightly? That would cause a similar problem. Other than that I have nothing new or original to add.

I am suprized no one asked this but are you using a phunnel bowl? If so the foil may be covering the hole restricting the pull. (or at least that is what is sounds like to me.) give me a few minutes and ill post a video of how to fix this problem.

There is no problem here. KMs just have an easier draw than most (cheaper) hookahs. Every single one of my friends told me the exact same thing when they first smoked my KM, because they're so much easier to pull than cheap chinese hookahs. Tell them to just pull normally on it and they'll get a good amount of smoke (assuming everything is set up right)

You want to make it 'feel' like theyre pulling in more smoke? Poke smaller holes, and fewer. That'll make it harder to pull and probably make them 'feel' like they're getting more smoke, even though they'll be getting less.

Hope this helps. Edited by Remy

take it easy tough guy, you cant feel smoke..you wouldnt know if you had a mouthful of it..they are going on how much smoke they see when they blow..and its not much according to there standards..so they are taking longer and deeper hits to get more smoke..so they assume its the hookah..you see he doesnt notice a problem with it only his girl and his friends..
