Tobaccofreeca

Recommended Posts

I got so pissed last night watching television. In the middle of my program on comes an anti-smoking ad from tobaccofreeca. Not the usual "let us help you quit ad", no not at all. This one shows a toddler playing in his apartment on the floor and second hand smoke seeping through the walls and ventilation system from the apartment next door that starts him coughing and choking.

Damn it, they've gone too far. Now they're going to try and deny what we do in our own homes? Pitting our neighbors against us implying we're hurting their kids through the walls? And what's really pissing me off is that I check their website (www.tobaccofreeca.com) and it turns out the State of California is partnering with them to produce the ads! So we're paying our own tax dollars to be told what we can and can't do in our own homes? Outrageous. And probably proof the tobacco nazis won't be happy until all tobacco is banned completely. Bastards.

There's talk about banning shisha tobacco in Denmark right now, because it "tricks young people into smoking cigarettes".. A stupid argument, for a stupid idea, by some half-wit politicians.

But I agree, the ads you're talking about does sound like it crosses the line.

I dont understand why countries are so hell bent of stopping people smoking, I understand all the risks etc but if people want to do it let them do it. Where will they get revenue from if tobacco sales decline? Surely they are a really really important source of income through tax etc

This is just absolute spin and over zealousness, but we're dealing with people who have a single minded agenda...
I'm serious, this whole second hand smoking crap is bias propoganda. What's that you say? Second hand smoke kills? Well buddy how about that car exaust you take in daily? How about that toxic outgassing from teflon you cook with? How about dust particles from your carpet and what not comprised of toxic petrochemicals and such? So how about those fumes from paints, cleaning chemicals, and ect...? Got a pet bird or dust mites, well your lungs are screwed my friend. Don't tell me this shit until you can isolate everything out, otherwise there is no fucking way you can qualify second hand smoke as a ubber mecha planet destroying toxin!

Nobody tells me what I can and can't do inside my own house. I also don't have a TV so I can't see these ads until they start making billboards. Hopefully our next governor puts an end to the anti-tobacco nonsense floating around in this state.

If you're in California, your next governor (and mine) is most likely going to be Jerry Brown again. A yoga posing vegan anti-smoking nazi himself. Anybody know what the biggest national political group working on personal freedoms is? Maybe we all need to join and start bitching everytime the political machine even looks like it's going after yet another personal freedom.

People who get involved in ads like that are the modern day zealots of society..i.e. people who blindly follow whatever the important(not necessarily intelligent) person tells them is right lol..it is getting quite ridiculous these days.

I forget what the town in cali is called but i made a post about it a while back. they banned smoking inside your own home if it had a shared wall with another residence even if the person who lived in that residence was also a smoker. I think I even linked a video of an old woman who got fined or arested or something.

Yea this whole thing is full of bull. In Illinois they banned ciggy's in public places. You need to be at least 15ft from a public building before you smoke. It all started in the airport, there were designated smoking spots. Then they gave businesses a chance to be be smoke free, so half of them went smoke free, and the other half got all the smokers and their profits rose two-fold. What do ya know? Then the smoke free business owners complained that they lost all of their sales, and now it's all smoke free. Just crap.

The new thing out is that they started to cut back on trans fat...and all of the people onboard the tobbacco bash, said WOAH WOAH WOAH!!!!! YOU CAN'T INVADE OUR PERSONAL LIVES! We can eat what we want to. You can't tell us what we can and can't do!

Double edged sword!

The reason they can't implement a law like that is that is that enforcing it, coming out to people's houses because somebody "Smelled Smoke" would be impossible. Call the police and say that you smelled NHT smoke from the apartment upstairs and see what they say. They'll try to pass the law, but the enforcement will be impossible. They'd have to ban it completely to get away with it.

I want to say it was in Reseda, but I'm not totally certain. Some city in the Valley as I recall. I also recall the homeowners association was suing her trying to enforce it and force her out of her condo. (It made the local news.) She wasn't counter suing but she was pretty much doing a "sit-in in her own home" with a "go ahead let me see you make me stop" attitude. I agree with Eric that it's going to be damned near unenforceable, but just the fact that they would publically go that far shows how intense they are about eventually banning all tobacco products. I honestly believe they will not stop until they're either stopped in Supreme Court or they get their way.

Thing is, research is going on that shows that hookah tobacco is no where near as harmful per session as cigarettes and you hear nothing about it. When they say "yea there can be this slight danger over here to this select group" they go nuts and want to have it banned overall. It's not going to stop.

The Danes are banning shisha? They stop for a smoke break in the middle of dinner!!!!

Smoking in public buildings that are over 40 squaremeters large has been banned here in Denmark for a while now.

I think that's quite nice in some cases, but going further than that.. Then it's getting too much in my opinion.

OMG HOW STUPID! So we should target all annoying or hazardous neighbors! Neighbors who burn their food, wear too much perfume, pass gas, have crying babies! Arrest all the MOFOS! LOL! I get so tired of people thinking they have a say in what another adult human does.

Here in TN (at least Memphis, I think it's the whole state though) it's illegal to smoke in a restaurant, UNLESS it's a bar. So basically if you want to smoke anywhere but your own home you must be 21... Which is retarded but I kind-of understand why they did it. I generally don't mind smoking (saying that I smoke hookah) to each his own I say.

But if they were to ban it in my own home? Well I'd be rather miffed. Even if I didn't smoke I would be raising hell, for gods sake where's freedom gone? Do we need another civil war to wake up the government?!

in houston, TX it's illegal to smoke INSIDE, ANYWHERE – bars included. i think cigar retailers are the only exception. they also just passed a CRAZY tobacco tax, effectively tripling the price of shisha. i used to get a 250g of AF for 8.89, now at the same store it is between 22 - 24 dollars. FUCK THAT. i don't know because now i buy all my tobacco online out of state. i feel like shit like that severely hurts local businesses. also, the tax will increase annually – INDEFINITELY. imo retailers should just stop selling tobacco and promote all residents to buy tobacco from out of state. lets see the state make any money like that. fucking assholes.
