Romman is Over Rated!

Recommended Posts

got an order in the mail the other day, had 5 Romman flavours in it: lemon, orange, peach, cherry, and cocktail. they smelled wonderful in the boxes, they burn well enough, certainly tolerable usage...but in no way are they better than the others i have bought. i actually have a better alternative in each flavour in another brand/brands. realizing that tastes differ of course, but i can't imagine anyone consistenly buying all of the romman shisha's with that high price tag when there are much better tasting, longer lasting shisha's all over the place for less money. Romman's taste is not very complex, the citruses are all topnote and they dissappear rapidly because there doesn't appear to be any lingering basenotes, and they taste 'flat' in comparison to some of the more complex shisha's out there. even that really cheep al waha stuff has a fantastic peach that far outways the romman one. the naklah (which is considered dirt by many here and i love thier banana, carmel, and lemon) has a much much more complex and assertive lemon taste that lasts for a loooooong time in the bowl. al amir's orange is far superior in both taste, smell and length of stay in the bowl. romman cherry i dislike for the sour note and the cocktail has this sour pungency too, but not so bad from the box, it increases when warmed.  both get kinda acrid in the bowl, especially the cocktail. this odd nose pickling smell is in the al waha pineapple too, makes me cringe, hits you high in the sinuses; it's a vinegar smell, some cheeses and overly used sweatsocks have the same effect on a nose as this shisha does to me. and the cocktail and the cherry romman both have some of this same hit to it.
i learn by doing, but my doing is getting expensive; this is no cheap hobby, is it?

Nope..it's not. You may ask around about trades now that you have Romman. Some folks may want to give it a chance themselves and may have flavours and brands you might want to try...It is an easier way to find out if something is any good or not without dropping a bundle on whole packages.
Very colourful reviews BTW. Fun to read..very...image invoking.
And I think, as an aside, that there have been other threads with similar titles...

Tangiers, I agree that romman in higher quality, but for the money I prefer al-waha for my usual smoke.  I love romman, but I can't justify spending the extra money frequently.  Recently my local shop has had a discount on romman so I bought some extra, but Al-waha is always my usual smoke.
The battle of opinions with the people that each have 5 posts!I thought Romman was made by Al Waha and you just sold it, H-S?
i'm sorry i don't have more posts, i'm a newbie. besides, more posts wouldn't change my opinion just your thoughts on my opinion. and it's not a battle exactly cuz i'm not trying to change any minds or anything. i just wanted to say stuff too, i like your forum.  i just wrote and posted what i thought of the stuff i just sampled, it was honest and i will own it. i didn't mean to step on any of your feets or anything, other people have opinions and post. i can stop posting if you want, but i think you guys need some newbies to stick around anyway, you have way too many old timers and you guys fight amongst yourselves like *old women*.

I think Romman is a good brand and does deserve its "premium" title. I have tried their peach, double apple, coconut, lemon, and mint.I do think this tobacco is a bit pricy. The lemon and mint were very good. The coconut was ok. I am not a super big lemon or mint fan, but I though I would try them out. I would not buy these flavors again. The peach and double apple were awesome to me. They had a perfect balance of flavor. The peach to me was amazing, great flavor and the thickest smoke I have seen. I would probably consider purchasing these again especially the peach. With competition heating up in the "premium aka $20+" category with brands like Fumari and Starbuzz that have a solid praise, I wonder how Romman will fare. With awesome brands for much less that are arguably just as good as the $20+ so called premiums for almost half the price entering the scene like Tangiers and Havana the competition will be really stiff.Romman does take a bit more heat. I prefer to use 2 natural Japanese coals on the bowl. It is good stuff to me.

I have to chime in and say Romman is not overrated at all. I don't smoke it regularly, but the flavors I have tried have been very good, maybe with the exception of apricot. Sweet melon was one of the best melon flavors I have tasted. I really think it does fall into the category of a premium tobacco, especially when compared to Al-Waha and Nakhla.

Rachael, your opinon does matter here, because some times a different opinon is refreshing. Don't take Tangiers too seriously he tends to get sarcastic at times, I think this could be from the long hours he puts in. But Like you I've had some disappointing result with romman tobacco. First off it is way over priced they, have to many stems in thier tobacco. But on the positive side thier strawberry is superb and thier sweet melon is one of the best melons around. But for the price I could get some flavors that are better and double the quantity sometimes triple, for the price Check your coals and heat and also keep your Hookah clean and see if that helps. Also let the tobacco aclimate to the enviroment. Please keep posting P.S I also think starbuzz is way over priced also just my opinon.

I honestly think Romman is good tobacco. First Romman i tried was cocktail and it was very good. Good taste, good smell, hit well, bowl lasted long. I guess coming from hookah ppl here, who smoke 5-6 bowls they are giving their personal opinion about flavors, because theyve tried so many, but average smoker will like romman.

Actually, Rachael, I wasn't being all that serious, usually newbies don't exchange amongst themselves...that was the point.Welcome, anyways.I forgot...I have to use emoticons to indicate what my state of mind is...

I have found that Romman is a wonderful shisha, but is very pricey.  It is good for special occations.  I find that i like Nakhla and Al waha about the same, but my favorite is Al Fakher.
