frost91
So usually, when my wife is not home, i smoke in the house. I usually smoke in the living room. EVERY single time i smoke, the carbon monoxide detector in the dining room ALWAYS goes off. Keep in mind, the dining room is at least 100 ft away. I didnt think it was a big deal at all, being that its an open area. but the other day, i was doing some work and decided to smoke in the master bed room upstairs. the dining room is downstairs where the carbonmonoxide detector is.... i closed my door and after 30 minutes heard it beep again. now that shit is SCARRY. the air only had a 1 cm crack to slip under and a whole house to disperse the smoke to and it still beeped. whats ur thoughts? Zinite
What type of coals are you using? Where are you lighting them?I have a CO detector literally 10 feet away from my coil burner. I use Coconaras, and it has never gone off. I test it regualarly, so I know it works.

Jacob Shock
MY Co2 detector was 10 feet away from were i light Johns Ch nats. i had no moce it cause it kept going off.but going off 100 feet away. no. fuck that. its your detector. if your co2 detector went off from that far away, you would get very sick being in the epicenter of the CO2

K1024
its bound to be your detector malfunctioning, because ive smoked less than 5 feet away from mine and its never gone off.

frost91
i dont think its my detector because anytime i do not smoke, it does not beep. it doesnt beep when i light my coals either. btw i use starlight natural coals. the only time the thing beeps is about 30 - 40 minutes of smoking. i mean, maybe its a cloud detector because god knows i get a bunch of those. all in all. really dont think its the detector....it doesnt beep ever unless i smoke hookah. maybe it detects very low levels? Codename067
Hmm, I should try and see if mine goes off. Highly doubt it tho.

king_lunchb0x
it could just an extremely sensitive alarm, i had a smoke alarm that would go off when u got out of a hot shower even though it was in the next room...i know not exactly ur situation but just saying some alarms are overly sensitive. foibled again
Try farting into it. If it alarms, there's something either wrong with your detector or your bowels.

It's quite annoying, especially when it's as cold as it is outside. Either say 'screw it' and pop out the batteries while you smoke, or get it tested. I know the reason my alarms go off is because I live in a TINY apartment and there's not much air-flow... But that far away, you shouldn't be having those problems.:\

ih303
I didn't catch where you said what kind of coals you were using. It seems a while back this came up and we discovered that Exoticas produce extremely high levals of CO - enough to set off a CO detector. I don't remember if it was only with Exotica brand finger coals or all finger coals but you might want to think about changing your brand.
mattarios2
I use cocos as many others have said, I smoke in my basement literally 10 feet away from our detector and it has never once gone off. Even when we smoke for 3-4 hours and the entire basement is one big cloud ... still doesn't go off.Edit: I also light my coals in the basement too, detector still doesn't go off. hukabukah
Sorry to bump this.. but I can attest to the exoticas giving off CO. My ridiculously loud CO alarm goes off all the time when I use exoticas... (my neighbors love it i'm sure) Granted.. the alarm is almost directly above where we smoke, but it's a small apt and it's hard wired in. When i used cocos it didn't go off once.
