Obviously Im Not Doing It Right... Somehow

Recommended Posts

smoking my mya petite right now, using foil and one golden coal. when i pull there is a "wheezing" like sound...it seems like its pulling too much air from outside and through the bowl, i didnt poke too many or too large of hole, and i tested for a leak before putting the bowl on. checked the purge valve and the bearing is fine, sitting in the hole like a good ball bearing. the pulls feel about half strength, and im not getting enough smoke sad.gif

i hate being a noob.

Check your hose for a leak. Plug one end and suck in. Recheck your stem... take the bowl off, plug the hose in, put your thumb over the bowl port and suck in. Any air flow means there's a leak. Make sure your downstem is screwed in all the way. What type of bowl are you using?

using a small egyptian. had to use the wet paper towel trick for the bowl grommet. before putting the bowl on i did the finger over the bowl port trick and there was no leak, only the third time i've used the hookah so i dont think its the hose

I got my friend a mya petite a few weeks ago and he's had that problem too, usin a funnel bowl. Sounds like air being pulled through or past foil on his. I'd recommend checking the bowl and/or foil...otherwise could be an air leak somewhere else

hmmm k ya checked the hose there is no leak there... made sure the hose adapter is tight. i guess it must be the bowl grommet though my roomy used the same setup without the paper towel last time and there was no problem, and it doesnt fit tight at all without the wet paper

put a hot new coal on and im getting decent smoke now but still there is that sound

Try to locate the sound specifically, have someone move their ear around over the hookah and find where it is coming from. It could be something stuck in a hose/stem somewhere... maybe there is a packing peanut in the stem lol?

fixed it i think! i added more shisha, pretty much to the level of the foil. dont hear the sound anymore, though i think this might burn the shisha

nope, it shouldn't....... you can have the shisha touching the foil with no problems..... in this case 1/4 of an inch, when you think about it.... doesn't really affect how much heat the shisha is getting.

a good way too test for leaks is take the bowl off, put your thumb on top of where the bowl would have been and suck through the hose. No air should go through. if there is air then cover both the purge valve and the top of the hookah with two thumbs and blow out, you will find your leak. also one coal probably isnt enough, and make sure to pack your bowls light, im getting the feeling they are over packed.

Glad it's fixed reading through. My thought was the foil is loose. To little tobacco will do it to make the holes in your foil like a whistle.

It's okay for tobacco and foil touch... they were a match made in heaven. wub.gif

as i was reading the post i was going to recommend adding more tobacco. You already said it was air tight by testing it with your finger, so the only other issue that is common is under packing.

good work, glad you figured it out.

enjoy!

yeah i made sure i didnt pack it too tight, though i didnt put enough shisha in there. next time i think i am gonna put more in, pack it fairly tight, then poke holes through the shisha and the drain holes in the bottom.

thanks for all the help guys! glad i got it working
