FratBoy
Hey all,I come to these forums whenever I need hookah information and am usually able to find it by searching. However, I'd like to get some advice for my specific situation.I'm in a fraternity and we like to smoke hookah. Often, we smoke at parties and in groups of 6-10 people. As you can imagine, large groups of people in a fraternity house can get careless and knock over the hookah. We've been through several vases, pipes, and bowls - keep falling and breaking.Basically, I'm looking for something with two rotating hoses that's very durable. Any suggestions? Thanks,FratBoy
NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
here is a link to some rotating hookahs, although i cant comment on there quality..if these dont work out for you maybe look into getting a lazy susan..http://www.hookah-shisha.com/c-9-rotating-...ookah-pipe.html
Vladimir
Find a cheap table, the best option would be closed with storage underneath (and an independent bottom), cut it so that the hookah vase fits inside/underneath the table, and the stem/bowl come out the top (hoses probably out the top would be best as well, maybe fit it so that the hose port(s) are at the very top of the table)...Try knocking over the table (okay still possible, but much harder than knocking the hookah over).EDIT: It should be relatively easy to do with a power drill and jigsaw. Maybe need some plywood to fill in the gap inside the table if the measurements aren't right (to lift the vase up to the proper height). Make it so that the vase has to be placed under the table (this is why it having storage and being closed off would be nice) and the stem can slide right down a hole in the table. It could range from looking fantastic and BEING fantastic, to looking like crap, being simple, but fixing your problems. vballpro
Here's a link from the Fun-house topic about one of the members hookah table.http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=26362I think this is what Vlad is getting at. If you do this the only thing that would be easy to break would be hoses or bowls. which are a lot cheaper than stems and bases
Stuie
...in a frat, huh......where are my directions to build one out of concrete and titanium................Can't find them, oh well.First, a Rotator with more than one hose is a complete waste. It's almost guranteed you will knock it over trying to coordinate rotating it with an extra hose. Second, the hookah table is a good idea.Third when it comes down to it... this is your best bet:http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1640-odysse...ose-hookah.htmlMya Odyssey - Four HoseStem is solid brass, chrome plated. Base is acrylic. If you break it I want pics!!!!I guess in your case buy a crap load of bowls, cheap ones.

bradleyclark86
I've encountered the "party + hookah" problem MANY times. Basically, I laid down some ground rules and such. I turned my bedroom into the designated hookah room. My hookah = my rules. If you're too drunk, don't even think about coming in. So far, it's gone over really well. I've only had 2 tip-overs (but that's inevitable with a 42" MZ haha). I went to Big Lots and got a cheap ~$10 rug that covers a big chunk of the floor so if the thing does tip, I'm not burning much. inino
ya anything with an acrylic base and a few hoses is your best bet. ill recomend the same one stuie posted. never used one, but it looks pretty good.
RingsMaster
make a hookah table, its not hard get some wood make a box, cut a hole in the center, what i would do is cut some holes for the hoses to come out of the side and plop the hookah in and no worries
mint
Yep, I've used the acrylic Myas a ton, and they are great and very hard to break, but I have seen them broken before. And after a while they sometimes get a weird plastic-y taste to them.

Vladimir
Something that is bugging me... everyone acts like breakage is only concern... a knocked over hookah, even if it doesn't brake.... SUCKS...
FratBoy
Hey Everyone,Thanks for all the helpful responses!I was talking to my friend, and as great as a hookah table sounds, one of the other main issues I forgot to address earlier is that we smoke outside, and often at a party the hookah will get left out an the concern is that it is even more likely to be left out if it is part of a table. This is a problem because when the water freezes it cracks the vase. From your experience, does the acrylic base crack when water freezes in it? I've seen some hookahs with stainless steel vases. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks again,FratBoy
Stuie
The acrylic shouldn't crack. If you fill the water up to only an inch from the bottom of the downstem you should have plenty of room for it to freeze.
ih303
Dude, I'm sorry, but there is at least some responsibility that comes with hookah ownership. Wanting a hookah that's able to withstand whatever a house full of drunk bros has to throw at it is a pretty tall order. If no one cares about respecting the pipe, why bother? Stick to other tobacco products that require much less care.
antouwan
i will third or whatever Stuie's post. i will also second ih303's post and no longer participate in this bastardization of our most belovèd hobby.
The Caterpillar
The acrylic shouldn't crack. If you fill the water up to only an inch from the bottom of the downstem you should have plenty of room for it to freeze.
Maybe just under that, Stuie? As you'll have some significant expansion as the water freezes? Fratboy, this is also what I'd do, in case you don't plan far enough ahead to freeze the base: I have a large lazy susan (~2' diameter) that I can secure my bases to. If you get the acrylic base, gorilla glue it down concentrically. Bring the lazy susan to the sink and fill it with the hose, when necessary. If someone tips that over, then they have jumped and hurricane-kicked the top of the stem. ...Which might happen in a frat, now that I think of it. Good luck---
FratBoy
Thanks to everyone for your help and feedback. I'm going to go ahead and order the Odyssey and attach it to a Lazy Susan. You've all been great! Respectfully, FratBoy
