New User With Questions

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

So I've been browsing the forum for about 2 days now and I have a few questions regarding buying my first hookah. Though I do have to say, I found some great tips and information throughout the forum so here is a preliminary "thank you".

And now onto business :). I'm currently looking for a hookah for myself and my roommate which can also be used at parties (usually around 10-12 people depending on whose waiting for their turn on the beer pong table). A friend of mine uses a 2 hose (though I do not know what model it is) and that seems enough for the whole group to pass around after taking a hit and passing it on.

First of all, there are many hookahs that are single hose, but they appear to have a slot for an extra hose. Is it possible to turn a 1 hose hookah into a second hose? If possible do i have to ghetto-rig an adapter for a new hose? And if it is possible to turn a 1 hose into a 2 hose, would it be cheaper (along with less hassle) to just buy a 2 hose instead and save the $10 difference?

Secondly, about how many bowls would I be able to get with a 250g of shisha? This is one question that I cant seem to find an answer to.

This is currently the one I am looking at buying http://www.socialsmoke.com/item--Draco-II-Magdy-Zidan-2-Hose-Hookah--EGYPTIANHOOKAHDR02.html. With blue Nammor hose and hemi bowl. I have seen several reviews for Magdy Zidan hookahs in the reviews section but none for the Draco series, though they all seem to be very well rated.

I'll probably think of some more questions later if the discussion gets going.

Thanks,
EaZ

MZ's are good hookahs. I'd also look into Mya's for multiple hosers... They're really good and have the auto-seal feature. Mya's are the only hookah that I know of that you can make a one-hose into a two-hose, by taking off the purge valve and putting on a hose port adapter. I have a Mya QT and love it. Mya's perform really well, and can be found for excellent prices. The MZ you have found is really nice, though, and since MZ is reportedly going out, your hookah will soon be a collector's item. Hope this helps. From what you've said, you're already going in the right direction...

EDIT: Also, look into a small Tangiers phunnel bowl. They make shisha go a long way compared to other bowls. Less messy since juice can't run down the stem. I forgot to address your "How many bowls will 250g get me?" question. The truthful answer to this is it depends on what kind of bowl, and how much you pack into it. Some shishas need to be packed tighter (Nakhla, Tangiers), whereas some need to be packed more fluffy-like (Al Fakher, Starbuzz). Most would agree that a small phunnel holds about 30-40g, considering each phunnel bowl is unique. I had a purple-black phunnel that was super shallow, and my new blue/black one is hella deep. Just depends on what you're sent. Again, hope this all helps and we'll get anymore questions you have answered.

Bowls really differ in size so you are looking at around 15 grams of shisha for an egyptian (I may be wrong) to about 35 grams for a small phunnel. The slot you are reffering to is probalby the purge valve which unless its a MYA or other chinese hookah cant be adapted. If you like the idea of a multiple hose, Id def go with a MYA pipe since they have the auto seal system. I would buy a one hose and some adapters and then eventually by my own hoses since the ones that come with are pretty shitty.

If you want the option to go two-hose, I'd skip everything and get a Mya. And I'm only recommending that for convenience's sake. As Inc stated, you just need to replace the purge valve with a hose adapter. The adapter is fairly inexpensive as well. And the extra hose cost is entirely dependent on what hose you purchase. The added benefit is the auto-seal function. You avoid the hassle of needing to plug up the other hose in order to take a pull. If you're getting a KM or MZ, you won't have that luxury.

Now, if you aren't dead set on getting a two-hose capable hookah....I'd recommend a single hose KM. They are just that good.

I'd look into the Mya Hookahs. The bigger ones can all change from 1 to 4 hoses, and are pretty sturdy. The autoseal function on them would be good for how many people you have wanting to smoke. I would suggest a rotator, but quality on them is so hit or miss, I'd advise against it. For looking at Mya hookahs, I'd suggest http:www.hookah-shisha.com

Ive heard pretty goood stuff about the MZ multi hosers. never used one personally. MZ is a pretty good brand in general even though they may not be as modern looking or flashy as MYA. you are looking at about 25g i would say in that in hemi bowl. so about 10 bowls for a 250g tub. If you and your friends want a more modern looking pipe and have the budget go mya, but if you want a cheaper but still just as functional pipe without all the flash go MZ.

Don't buy an Egyptian Hookah if you are looking into a hookah with multiple hoses, because it's a waste of money.

Mya takes the cake in the Multiple Hose category, no doubt.

I am personally not a great fan of Multi-hosed stems, the only one I got [which was free] I never even used.

But hey, certain needs require certain demands.

I have the mya QT with interchangeable hose adapters. when i smoke alone I leave the purge valve on. When friends join in it takes 3 mins to convert to a two hose system. Its win win. Plus you can smoke a QT in its wire cage. virtually impossible to tip over without really trying.
