hookahTIY
This is a pattern some friends and I came up with. I have only used it on a modern standard bowl, and I think it work allot better then a bunch of small holes. any why all you need is a small knife ( pocket knife, steak knife or razor blade). The pattern consists of 9 inner slots in the shape of a square 12 outer slot that make a ring around the inner grouping. NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD
looks interesting, with big slits like that i think it may work well with tangiers..
nars2k
Hmm, I dont have experience with tangiers but it seems like there would be too much oxygen going in with these size holes. How does it smoke?

How does it smoke?
It smokes great for me with nakala in a modern bowl with a wind cover. the holes look way bigger then they really are the bowl in the pic is only 2 1/4 inches wide. some times thou there is a little bit to much oxygen getting in so I advise using a razor blade to make as thin as possible slits, but the heat transfer is great with this. P.S. when I use this pattern I put the coal on the out side and rotate it around I only mention this because some people put the coal in the middle. boomerboom5000
from my understanding through experimentation, the more holes you have the more air you get into your hookah and that makes the pull easier but if you have to much air then the smoke will be thin and not as tasty.one of the reason's I like hookah so much is the mission for the perfect bowl. boom boom
one of the reason's I like hookah so much is the mission for the perfect bowl.
agreed I've always thought that preparing a hookah is something of an art form. as for a hole pattern, I've used knives and razors before, but I much prefer a thumb tack or something similar and put about 20 small holes in a spiral pattern working from the outside in (with a standard bowl, at least... it's a bit different for a vortex or phunnel)
