Sometimes I smoke 2-3 heads a day, sometimes I don't smoke for a week, it really depends how busy I am. I try to find some time for my hookah as a "relaxing period" where I get to kick back and step away from the stressors of this crazy world.Jon

If you want to know real issues check out carcinogens levels. That is where you will find the most harmful deposits - Basically the coals are the worst part - tobacco levels are debatable - in cigarettes you are a couple inches away from whats burning - thats what makes them really bad - the cooling of the smoke through the water lowers the levels of carcinogens significantly. There hasn't been a theory ever evolved but I guarantee that this would be where controversy  would arise.

I have always wondered why cigarette smokers tend to get addicted. Pipe, cigar, and hookah smokers tend to be much less prone with regular use. It is still tobacco one is smoking, so what makes cigarettes different. I think there are many factors, but there is one BIG difference I see to cigarettes. Cigarettes use additives specifically ammonia. Ammonia can make nicotine "free-based". Free-based nicotine hits your system right away because it can vaporize. The use of ammonia can increase the delivery of nicotine by 100%. Quite an effective method to keep people sucking on cancer sticks. Here is a good write up about it.Smoking is still bad, but I think if you don't overdo it you should be fine. I think chugging soda pop is far more dangerous than an occasional smoke.

Not only are cigarettes addictive because of the freebase nicotine, but it is also radioactive because of the fertilizer. So you're inhaling radon and phosphates, meanwhile getting hooked on what is basically raw nicotine. Pretty insidious. Way to go Phillip Morris. Are the same fertilizers used with shisha tobacco? Another thing to consider, do you get addicted to shisha the same as cigarettes?Scientists with an agenda may not agree, but I think smoking a hookah you're bound to smoke less often. Never seen anyone rush to assemble a hookah on lunch break, not the same way cigarette smokers act like junkies for the next smoke.Read this article for more info on radioactivity

I think I'll jump on my motor-cycle and go to the "drug" store for a pack of ciggies. At least I'll know that what I'm doing is dangerous. Mush on mushrat! Driving in cars are statistically more dangerous, , though not as bad as living in earthquake areas or Florida hurricaine areas.   We should all make intelligent choices,  moral choices,  and try to have a goood sense of humor; or a spouse or friend who does that for us.

#1: don't believe what you read online...unless there's scientific citation and verifiable sources, its all Kentucky Windage.#2: Nobody's sure one way or the other, for the sake of our conscience, its dangerous...you're shortening your life...stop now...don;t do it.#3:Radioactive fertilizer...what are you talking about??I have heard of the propensity for tobaco to absorb polonium from the soil, having nothing to do with fertilizer...I don't have a radio series chart in front of me, but one beta emission would make radon...only problem is radon has a half life of around 222 days...so in the two years from stalk to your smoking, the radon would only be 1/2 cubed or 1/8 intensity...not too serious...not as serious as smoking. Additionally, polonium is not very common...so the amount of radon is negligible. I would guess Polonium has a longer half life, making Radon more scarce...I think since it is a beta emitter (radon is an alpha emitter)...you would get much more radiation sitting in front of a CRT.

You guys are hurting my head. Just breathing modern societies air is bad for you. ther are alot of scientific studies on the harmful effects of smoking but yet people still do it. What ever you put in your lungs that isn't pure air is going to be bad for you.  But that is a risk every person in this world has to take just breathing.

 • 3 weeks later...
I smoke out of the hookah ever chance or excuse I have... It could be once every two weeks, or four times a day. I also ride mountain bikes for like 4 hours a day and workout 3 times a week. Its all about compensation between healing yourself and killing yourself... personally killing is way more fun

I doubt that any of us are in serious danger of addiction or health issues.  If I do remember a certain former member (Not going to speak his name...Kind of a MacBeth effect) was smoking 25-30 bowls a day!    I love hookah...just not that much.  That and I don't have the time to do so.

I forgot, does the foil go shiny side up or down when making protective headgear?

I smoke 2-3x a week, usually on weekends or a super long day at
work...  like anything else in life, moderation is key..
Yes, it IS smoke going in your lungs, so obviously not good for you,
but if I avoided everything in life that was fun but had the chance to
be harmful, I'd never leave the house..

Once or twice a week.  Friday and/or Sat night.  I try to keep it to one day, if possible.  I feel it in my lungs for the next few days if I smoke too much.  During college (10 years ago) I smoked every day.  I never want to go back to that feeling, so hopefully I can keep it under control.  I've kept this pattern up for about a year, so I think I should be OK.
