The ban you have put in place is discriminatory. It discriminates against a man in Adam Bliss who has worked his life away to continue a dream he has had, to own a small business and to be successful at it. It discriminates against the patrons that frequent the bar who consider it a respite from the hectic, stressful life they lead. It discriminates against a tradition in shisha smoking that has spanned hundreds of years.

The fact that you would choose to make it MORE difficult to run a small business in this economy shows how little you really know about your citizenry and the economy. I thought 90% of this country's economy came on the backs of small businesses. And now you choose to, instead of opening your arms to them, turn them away? And when asked how he will make his living, you tell him you're sorry.

I am sorry. Sorry you dont get the real picture. Sorry you dont get how to really help the economy. And sorry you dont understand the activity you have seeked to destroy.

Thanks for the help,

(My name here), Sacramento, CA

That above is what I sent to the good senator. It may be a bit strong, but I didnt curse and I didnt get out of line I dont believe.

Besides the grammar, looks great to me, well done. I am not trying to be a grammar police here by any means, just noting since it was sent to a public official rather than just an argument on the boards here. Regardless though, i think you did a good job getting your point across without being insulting, one thing i might suggest next time is attaching where you got your information about the 90%, explane your relationship to Adam Bliss, explain why it is discriminatory, and maybe send an attachment or a link to a website that explains hookah.

You want it to be short, simple, and to the point or else the jerk won't take the time to read it, but you also want enough in there to make sure you adequitly get your point across. Thanks for posting your email though, its inspiring. :)

The whole relationship thing would get lengthy. I think they get regular english even if it has some gramatical errors. And the last thing a senator would wanna be caught browsing would likely be a hookah site. I think porn would be higher on the list lol.

I see that we have yet another incident in which political favors took precedence over serving the constituents who are responsible for your office. How can this continue to happen? Has no one at either the state or federal level come to realize that you cannot continue to ignore the needs of the public who are beginning to view ourselves as victims of legislative disregard? And one wonders why many of us believe there needs to be a national movement towards term limits for both state and federal elected senators and congresspersons in order to break up and dissolve once and for all the "crony-ism" presently rampant in our political process. This has obvious far reaching implication when a California citizen takes an interest in North Carolina politics. Yet how can I not as a politically aware citizen?

In only a few short days business owners face closing and losing their livelihoods because once again our politicians have chosen political favors over caring for the very citizens who elected them. What's more, I have serious belief that this closure which obviously targets hookah bars is discriminatory in nature as hookahs are clearly a Middle Eastern tradition of several hundred years. I can only tell you that this is not a North Carolina issue. Not when the rights of any American are in jeopardy based on cultural heritage and discrimination. If you cannot serve the people who elect you to office, how can you be trusted with the best interests of our nation? I wish sincere luck and godspeed to the North Carolina business owners who are about to challenge your legislation in court. And perhaps throw their support and their money behind any political aspirant not currently titled "Incumbent" in the next election. Perhaps then service to the people will be understood for the requirement it is in order to deserve and hold your office.

[b]My grammar was far from perfect too, but I'll take passion over perfect English any day of the week......
